Given that membership numbers are already in the 700s...

What is the maximum number of guests that Eurofurence will accept this year, including those staying at other hotels?

The hotel's room capacity, easily met last year, is approximately 600 persons.  Last year all the function rooms, including the ballroom, were filled beyond capacity.  I don't know how many persons in excess of those with rooms the con will admit.  If you have registered and your registration number is over 600 you may have to wait for someone to fail to pay in a timely fashion, or want to transfer his membership to someone else.

We did not make very efficient use of the available space last year. With some thorough planning, we hope to accomodate about 700-750 people.

Negotiations of overflow options are still in progress at thist ime. The Ringberg hotel will put out some extra beds, converting some of the double rooms to tripe rooms upon request. We're just working the details on on this. Also, we're in contact with the Mercure Hotel in Suhl, trying to get an affordable tariff so we may announce them as an official overflow hotel.

We hope to improve function space use in a couple of ways to make room for more attendees. The lower lobby area largely remained unused last year, and that's going to change. We need to make the room downstairs more attractive in order not to overstaff the bar area too much. Dealer's Den capacity will be increased by scrapping the video show, and using the extra room for more dealers tables. The stage setup went VERY wrong last year, wasting a lot of capacity. We are going to open the folding walls this time, move the control booth back several meters, and also move some of the trussing and the projection screens further to the back of the stage, making more room for audience. The fursuit lounge will move behind the elevators to the former (unused) staff lounge. There's also some ideas of using the club downstairs for late-night events, and further dissolve the large crowd a bit.

So to be perfectly clear on this, you will fit between 700 and 750 people?

And there are still tickets to get? Because this year it sold out (if there are only 600 places like last year) in less than 4 hours, like a rock koncert.

Could you put up a very clear sign on the front of the con page saying that all spaces are now taken when they are? That would be very helpful, so that people are not in doubt but know whether there are spaces to reserve or not.

I'll make an appropriate announcement as soon as we open the official waiting list. Right now we've just stopped approving registrations because we don't know the PRECISE number of beds and the condition of the overflow hotel yet.

Because ... space is NOT yet an issue. Hotel beds are.

Right now, I can only ask everyone who wants to come to keep registering, regardless of the reg count. There is nothing to loose, worst thing that can happen is that you'll end up on the waiting list in a couple of weeks. Nobody will be charged money until there actually is a space.

Hello Cheetah,  I am curious about something, since you said that hotel bed space is limited.  I have myself this year, unless circumstances change within the next 2 weeks, opted to book a 'single' room, but as is my understanding from last year, it was a twin room just occupied by one person (please do correct me if I am wrong).

My concern is, given that space is a premium, would you be put in a position where you will be forcing people who have booked singles to share with someone they dont know?  What, infact, is the general ruling regarding single occupants in a room?

Thanks for your time, look forward to hearing back from you Smiley

The room booking issue will be the same as last year. If you want a single room, you'll get it. After all, that's what you pay for. You will not be forced into a room with a total stranger, however, con staff may approach those who booked a single room and ask if it's really neccessary to keep it that way. This is just an inquiry, tho.

Hotel price is negotiated per bed, so for a single room, you actually pay for both beds. And the "first come, first serve" rule applies regardless of the number of beds ordered.
If you change your mind later on you can still choose to "rescue" someone from the waiting list (ask Loewi for details), but you certainly won't be forced to do so. Except by your conscience telling you not to occupy more space than you absolutely need Wink

And like a sold out rock concert the issue of "scalping admissions" may arise this year.  Since you do not allow people to return their membership once paid for, but do allow them to transfer it to someone else, a person who has paid but cannot attend can easily resell his membership for a profit.

I was wondering if the convention has considered its policy on this.

Since registrations are personalized, each person is limited to one registration. Sure you could try and sell that one registration for a small profit. But different to concert tickets, with no more than one reg per person, it's not really a business model, so we do not expect much abuse.

Well I have to say (being reg no 696) that I'd happily share a triple and know two others who are already going who I could share with. I hope everything works out and look forward to seeing what happens with the overflow hotel etc.
