EF 16 Videos

Hi!

There was no EF 16 video thread, so I decided to make one! :)

I want to show you two videos from Eurofurence 16 that I had made. A older one that a couple of you might know and a new one.

Nice videos, thanx for sharing :)

On Youtube you mention "35mm" equipment. Can you provide more information about this? What type of camera and lens was used? The lens seems to suffer under vignette (getting darker in the corners). Or is this a filter?

The camera I used was a Sony HDR HC-5 with a JAG35Pro 35mm adapter and a canon FD 50mm f1:1,4 lens.



A 35mm adapter is used to work with SLR lenses on a normal video camera like my sony HC-5. The general idea is to get a shallow depth of field. Unfortunately, most of those adapters are very light hungry and thats the reason for this vignetting effect in my video.

It's an interesting proof-of-concept that allows professional focus adjustment workflow with a consumer camera.

I think it does more than prove the concept. It indeed allows you to shoot some really awesome video footage in a very affordable way, which I'd say is pretty useful, and pretty ingenious :)

I officially confirm, that your videos represent the atmosphere in the hotel lobby perfectly. They bring back some good memories.

How much did the camera rig setup on the photo cost? (without the tripod)

I'm using a low-cost rig. The DOF- or 35mm-adapter from Jag35.com cost 300$. The D|Focus follow focus I'm using cost 100$ and a lens gear 30$. A used canon FD 50mm f1:1,4 lens costs about 50$ and a cheap rod support about 50$.

My complette rig including the camera cost about 900$.

Is there some torrent of sth. of the full Ogwambi-recording before youtube recompressed
it? That would be great!

Pseudoscience is a bit shaky in places. I guess you had to film from your shoulder/hand?

Kyron: Did you use the 50mm at f1.4 in the Ogwambi-recording? Mine is a bit soft at f1.4 and
I need to step it down to f2.0 for perfect clarity. I'm surprised how well the 1/3" sensor did keep
up in Ogwambi though. Even with this fast lense. I guess being a video-camera it just has much
larger pixels to gather light on.

Umm... 1080p not enough for you? I don't see much difference from the actual files that I've uploaded.

You don't? I see a lot of jpeg-like artifacts and color banding in dark areas when played in YT in 1080p on a 1080p lcd.
Maybe it's a dynamic bandwith-thing. That my DSL downstream just can't keep up and the YT-player reduces the requested bandwith.
Will try to find a way to download from YT to my local disc. (I'm sure there are dozens of programs to do that.)
