Peeking at the Estrel Hotel

lol ... not the best impression to make first time in berlin and everything is cordoned off with CRIME SCENE tape.  ;)

But Suran's suit will be the bomb.

Cheetah:
Well, technically, we are returning to Berlin the SECOND time :) Although I doubt we left any lasting impression the first time :)

could someone check if they have NOT STUPIDLY CRAPPY internet in all room in the new hotel?

in the Maritime, there was 3 way to get some internet (without a german mobile phone):
1) EF wifi: on 7th floor the signal was useless 99% of the time. it was possible to succeed to get some connectivity by getting on the inner passageway, but still that can be problematic when you have some real work to do and not just check your personal mails or twitters etc
2) Deutch Telekom wiki: previous years I could use it when I was in lower levels in the hotel, but on the 7ths floor the signal was even crappier than EF wiki, so simply useless
3) the rj45 available on all room's desk: that thing is so fucking expensive I wonder why the bathroom tapes were not all goldplated already with the money they get from it. and it was also not really good, a simple html page would takes many time longer than it should had to load, making me almost feel like back to my old 56k modem many years ago.

Well, inexpensive PAYG data plans for mobile phones exist.

I recommend hopping into a mobile phone store, show your ID / passport and get yourself a prepaid SIM card with a daily data flat. Spending 10-20 Euros on that is not much, and it's nice when you can stay in touch with your friends at the con (or abroad) with your mobile phone using WhatsApp or any other messengers outside the hotel area, or simply tether it with your tablet/laptop when you need to get online urgently.
