fire spitting
« on: 07.01.2008, 14:20:26 »

last eurofurence there were two furs one night at the campfire.
they brought along a torch and oil and did an amazing firespitting show

i have no idea who these furs were, but i'd like to know since i'm trying to learn myself firespitting.
maybe they can give me some tips/hints.

so if anyone knows who they were. please let me know

I saw that but I did not know who it was.  At the time I thought that it was Cheetah and that maybe someone had just told him that there were underaged reporters who had not paid for the convention nearby.

There are only two persons who could've done such a show: Zefiro and Mendra. Maybe you want to approach them directly? :)

Ahh Fire Breathers!
That's what they are called in the US anyhow.
I'm not sure what they are using but it looks like they are burning themselves :(
Professionals here normally use clear unscented lamp oil as the prefered oil to use.
Having some instruction and tips on how to fire breath correctly is very wise.
Please DON'T burn yourself! Lots of other fuels are toxic - so be very careful what you use!
You can feel free to contact me.

yes. i found tons and tons of information on internet. both how to do and what can go, and what  to do when it goes wrong.

as for fuel. i orderd "fakir" oil. wich is like lampoil but specially made for firebreathing.
i also ordered a special kevlar firebreathing torch.

so expect one more firebreathing furry at EF. if that's okay with the staff that is >.> (looks over to BBF)

indeed. it's all your fault.

naw just kidding, i always wanted to do that :3
i just needed a little boost.

i mean....what can go wrong.....besides
- roasting my face, lungs.
- swallow the oil and get poisoned
- inhale the oil and seriously f*ck up my lungs
- get really really bald

*chuckles* see....it's perfectly fine

Yes, the little fire performance was done by Mendra and me. Since we don't own fursuits that's how we show our species as firedragons ;)

You can contact me via ICQ, if you wish. PM me for the number.

I can't give you much recommendation, though, except for really be careful. You've listed the dangers correctly and underestimating them might be the biggest mistake. I'm keeping the number of breathings per year quite low (about 5), take no risks and use the special fluid sold in the appropriate shops. Not sure about the english name of it and to avoid false friends I won't name it here.

I do really recommend you find someone near you with some years of experience who can show you how to do it correctly instead of just trying it out by yourself. Opposed to other skills, it's not really that complicated, but still quite dangerous. You also need some experience with wind and the necessary distance to burnable stuff. At Eurofurence I also asked for and got permission from Cheetah and somewolf.

BBF: thanks for the kind words

Onkel Kage: you surely know Eurofurence 21?

i'm afraid i don't have ICQ. i only got MSN.
but thanks for the info. although i have nobody around who can show me.
i did practice with water and i can produce a nice fine mist with hardly any big droplet. or water running down my chin.
the fuel i use is called "fakir" oil. and it's specially made for firebreathing. it's like lamp oil but without taste and colouring.

just a short note from me

please do not engage in activities like firespitting and other potentional dangerous
without my permission

the only ones who have my permission to do so at ef are Zefiro and Mendra so far

please contact me up-front or on-site if you are going to join that 'event'
or planing the like actions by your own

not contacting me and gaining permission will result in a big bad wolf

thanks for making my job easier
and the convention enjoyable for all
