EF, Hotel and Germany about Ecig
« on: 19.01.2014, 20:49:26 »

Hi,
I would like to know what's the position of Germany towards the electronic cigarette as well as the hotel/con.
Thanks

It's a slightly difficult topic since even the legislation doesn't seem to be entirely sure over here. However, the common idea is that e-cigs are to be treated like real cigarettes, which makes them legal in smoking areas only. So, in most places, you will not be able to "vape" inside public buildings, restaurants etc.

Owners of restaurants, bars etc. may tolerate them, but don't expect them to. You'll most likely be asked to not vape inside.

I can only second what BigBlueFox said. In many places, people have no idea what ecigs even are, it's still very new and somewhat exotic. Legislation is nearly nonexistant, and the tendency is to lump ecigs in the same category as regular cigarattes. You will probably have to get individual permission wherever you go. Even the estrel hotel does not have a clear policy on it, and depending on who was on duty, we got different answers.

Thanks a lot for your replies, guys.
Best course of action will be to act like with a normal cigarette.

There is a Smokers Lounge in the Estrel. I guess and hope E-Cigarettes are allowed there?

A little bit late, I know :)

As vaping has become more and more familiar in germany since last year: Are there any changes, or in other words "more clearer policy" from the Estrel, how they handle it? Last year I have seen many people, vaping inside the hotel in the lobby. Is this now officially accepted?

Looking forward to see you all next week :)

As far as I know, but please verify this yourself at registration, vaping is tolerated by the hotel in the main lobby. It is, howver, and that I am certain of, not allowed in any panel rooms or in your hotel room.

Sounds cool, thanks. While I know some lack of it, not vaping (and for sure smoking) in a panel room or own room is common sense for sure.
