Since alot of people seemed interested in this I thought about opening a topic about it.
What's the deal?
It's very easy. I'm from the Netherlands and will be buying in loads of packages of stroopwafels. Not for myself of course but for whoever wants to have or try them! The only catch is to trade it for a typical treat from your region/country which can be anything. This way we all get something new and exciting to eat and it's an awesome way to make new friends!
Whoever feels like getting a package of stroopwafels at EF? ;D
Fancy some Welshcakes hmm? ;)
they also make stroopewaffel here too, only by a different name, maybe I should bring some of ours and compare.
If I remember, I'll bring Handkäs mit Musik *EG*

Draw your own conclusions... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handk%C3%A4se) :D
That's the fun part, something you like to snack or nom in your region ;) I like surprises!
Oooh, I could bring some dates from my cousins' farm!
Some dates ey? ;) sounds promising!
Can I put you on the list? :P

Hehe, sure! Will you also be bringing vla and boterkoek? :3
We got pretty excited about this topic a moment ago – question, seeing the Handkäse mit Musik, which doesn't seem like a snack in the strict sense… anyway, would you like some (and would it be okay to bring some) non-snack Hungarian stuff besides the snack ones we'll try to bring? Thinking about kolbász and cheeses but other things might come up too.
Spill it, what would you want to try from Hungary? :)
Ohh... I want stroopwafels! Grin Never had the opportunity to enjoy them, but I keep hearing raving news about them.
If there's anything I can bring from the US let me know! ^^
Wanna be on the list then?
I will be in Italy just before going to EF, so I will bring some snacks as well :)
Another thing: there are so many people getting excited about that food exchange, should we try to make it more official?
I can bring some goodies too :3
If someone want something specific just tell me and will try to find here ;D
I see people are getting pretty excited which is why I ask you guys...
Maybe we should see if we can find some room somewhere so everybody can enjoy a little taste, maybe only a bite or sip, of each others things? Is this a good idea?
Also asked this question on my first post.
And i can bring some nommy belgian chocolates if it interests anyone???
Would anyone like for me to bring something from America that is not (a) already available all around Europe
and (b) not disgusting?
I love beef jerky from USA, Uncle Kage :) (just not the teriyaki, too sweet.. but i'll go for the spicy one anytime!)
And i can bring some nommy belgian chocolates if it interests anyone???
I can bring some Finnish candies... Cookie want some? :)
Now I just got to see how to put this many people in one room and not getting confused!
Good idea to ask for a panel room or something?
We could do it like this: every person (or group) who wants to represent a country (or a region of a country) gets a table. You can set up your table in a variety of things you want to bring, and show and tell about your country: posters, photographs, a map, the flag, tourist leaflets of things you can do, contactsd of furry organisation etc. etc. and of course the food, which the others can try.
If you want you can stand by the table and explain/talk to others (who walk around like on a market or a fair) or you make it self-explanatory, or perhaps two or more people from the same country take shifts in presenting...
As the only furry from my country attending EF (out of all three of us :P), I probably won't be able to man the table most of the time, but I like this idea! Hopefully I can get my table-neighbor to watch over the dates to make sure everyone's sharing nicely while I'm off tasting the other snacks. :3
"we offer food to our guest that wasn't discussed with the hotel beforehand"
I can bring some goodies too :3
If someone want something specific just tell me and will try to find here ;D
Rodizio ^^
Did you notice Riffuchs post on the previous page indicating that he could offer a room in the evening?

Finnish licorice eh???? *barfs*
Actually the finnish fruity candies that i got with that custom pony thingie (the ones in shape of spades, hearts etc were not that bad, so those i'd like.. but the licorice.. *yukkkkk*
Something from Netherlands in exchange for belgian chocolate? Mmmh... cans of red or green Fernandez or vla (any flavor but especially caramel and vanilla or vanilla with little balls of chocolate inside - the one with the witch on the packaging).. that should do it..

Can I say I'm friggin' amazed in how awesome and excited you people are for making this event even happen!?WITHOUT YOU GUYS THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED!
It was way more awesome than expected and way more people came and brought way more than expected! I'm really amazed and this needs way more preperation and attention next year because it's awesome and deserves proper time to prepare. So I hope that it can be done on a less.. let's say... last minute setting :D
Again thanks guys for making it happen even though it was all so messy, chaotic and last minute.
I tasted all the snacks! :D
Yeah I am. I really need some more of that stuff! :D
Where can I getz it? :D
Thank you everyone, especially gwyn for making this happen :) I really enjoyed pretty much everything you people brought.

I brought one with me this year, but since I forgot to attend the event, I had to eat it in my room with some friends !
If I can come next year and if someone organize such an event too, I'll bring another one! ;)
I really love this idea! I can bring 'salmiak' powder (NH4Cl) for everyone and then I can eat it all myself :P
The suitcase did not arrive until the next day, when I had no choice but to give all of the jerky to Cookie.

Ha-haaaa! my secret plan has worked... though it costed me a fortune to bribe those people at the airport to hold your suitcase until the next day, so all the jerky could be MIIIIIIIIIIIINEEEE..*rubs hands and licks her lips*
*ahem*
Did i say that aloud?
*innocent look*
I would come if I don't forget to, like I did last year m(

I was eyeing some Old Amsterdam in the Tesco a few days ago. Didn't end up buying any (it's crazy expensive here, somewhere around 9000 HUF per kg), but ended up bumping into something similar, called Old Dutch Master (which is only about 6000 per kg).If it's any consolation, even in it's country of origin it's one of the most expensive brands of Gouda cheeses. ;)

Oh, this sounds interesting. Not sure exactly what's uniquely swedish, foreigners are always best at determining what your culture is. I'll think of something.Surprise me, I know you will! #p

Look tasty! Looks like something we call here in Holland 'Bokkenpoten' (Goat legs) No pun intended, Vustex! :)What you're referring to are actually "mergpijpjes". These (http://www.vandijkbanket.nl/files/productfotos/Chocolate/19bokkepoot_mg_0480.jpg) are "bokkepoten" ;).
Hirohusky here, currently residing in Malaysia, fancy some MAMEE fried noodle snack? :3

You mean, sort of like Ramen?
and the question is: where will it be held?
Italian here.
I'm willing to exchange some goodies such as coffe, snacks, or other tipical products.
I'm looking for some tea, and I'd really like to get some from england!
Tell me if you wish to taste something which is tipically italian
Kinase
Just spare us from your evil, evil soda "Beverly" xD.
Just spare us from your evil, evil soda "Beverly" xD.
More for me :3c
Beverly is so incredibly bitter and icky xD.
I'll look after them, I'll try to find out which kind of drink you're talking about Ralesk. Was it called Amaro?
I wish I'd remember. I think the people who brought it, were a couple and they live in Germany but one of them is Italian so he brought some of this stuff. I think the other things nearby on the table were prawn/fish something on bread? And in the other direction there was Sinea's 120% Chocolate Cake.
If you people recognise yourselves, speak up! XD
I'll bring Sweden's most popular chocolate bar :D
(http://ronjiss.spotlife.se/files/2011/11/kexchoklad.jpg)
If the tasting is organised again, I would bring it along again - this time more (cause there was no other drink @ and people got quite thirsty) and different brands (to compare), if I can manage ;).
@SunWolfNah, it's ok though... it's on me! You can have it for free! (whoah there, only for Sinea)
Please reserve on for me :D
I will give you the money back at the con :)
Thank you so much you could bring them to me on Thursday (room Munich) :DTHNX! I hope I can remember it... (read: too much suiting :D)

Please don't bring alcohol or any other beverages to this event. (Please also refer to my old reply in this thread (https://forum.eurofurence.org/index.php/topic,3065.msg29108.html#msg29108).) We're already quite stressing our limits with the hotel for allowing something like this event. : )
There will be some wine panel this year where you can bring something along. I'm not quite sure, but I think for that event EF will have to pay a fee to the hotel ("Korkgeld"), which is not just a few Euros.

Is this event actually going to happen?

It is in the preliminary schedule and I didn't read anything that it has to be taken out. So, yes it will I'd say. : )

As long as it's not swiss cheese fondue... ::)
So, when and where is this going to take place? :)
Also, are savory snacks welcome? I'm thinking about bringing a box of Kieler Sprotten (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kieler_Sprotte) if anyone'd be interested in trying those.
As long as it's not swiss cheese fondue... ::)
Haha, no. These ARE smoked fish, so they do have a certain aroma, but it's quite gentle and should neither be detectable outside the immediate area nor linger around. :)
I'd like to remember that we have a "no smelly food" rule. I'm also not sure if fish aroma mixes well with cookies, cakes etc. ...

If you look closely at the rule, you will find it begins with the word "no".
Which part of that word do we have to explain to you? :)
I liked it very much. Especially that some had the foresight to bring beverages and that the italian panel had snacks from "real" food.
The shame about it tho, is that events take place at the same time, so I had to choose one to attend.
I couldn't be there (conflicting times with the Dealer's den opening) but i hope my Belgian chocolate was welcomed (gave it to someone to be brought in the panel)...
