Title: DJ panel on EF 17
Post by: Wild-Wolf on 31.05.2011, 22:11:07
Hey guys,

as maybe some of you remember from last year, we had a DJ panel back then where people could take a sneak peak into DJ'ing or just try out the machinery and have fun.

I would like to continue the panel this year as well.

So everyone who's interested to bring their own gear along, or just want to help / would like to visit the event, feel free to leave a comment...

I would bring along a Traktor S4, Notebook and some Allen & Heath XD53 headphones.

Depending on the decision of BBF and others I might also perform live in the Piano Bar with some House and Chillout Tunes.

See ya!  #p

Seeing how most DJs I knew said "Hey, you know what would be a great idea - a DJ panel!" right after I had mine (they never bothered to look at the time table or conbook), I don't think that anyone is going to read the forums or the conbook this year. I'm highly sceptical that anyone else would show up.

Also I only have a more or less crappy controller right now and I'm definitely not happy. My plans were to own something different right now, but unfortunately a profitable project just had to be delayed for over half a year - and social insurance costs an arm and a leg too...

Also I will be mixing in the "Piano Bar" on Friday from 8 - 10pm.

Feel free to watch, talk with me, ask questions or whatever you feel like ;)

I can contribute with my VDJ setup, complete with external soundcard, mixer and headphones.
a good example on where to start off and a good example for a traveling DJ

Sure knock yourself out and bring along whatever you like  :D

Despite that I just got the mail from BBF that I will spin another house set this year in the Piano Bar and it will get even more groovy this year  ;)

Would this panel just be for the ones who allready are DJ s' and thus aimed for trying off equipment,
or is it also aimed for people who have never DJ'd before, and are just looking for knowledge about music styles that go well together?

As a little more down to the fundamentals about what makes a good DJ and such.

Yes, Wild Wolf will be displaying Traktor with the Kontrol S4
I will be displaying Virtual DJ 5.2 Pro for a more entry level setup

old lappy (2007) with XP, it just runs better and is far more stable than the newer versions :3
its far simpler and more accurate when calibrating and mapping out keys on a keyboard for example
6 and 7 just added a few new features that i don't need or even use, made it consume more CPU and RAM... they more or less rewrote the program from the ground up and made it worse

So it seems my version will be different than yours... but it doesn't matter, as long as I learn from it... (Still having little problems maintaining BPMs n such...)

I shall watch and learn!  #p

a bit of changes to the layout on screen, a few new commands and a few new buttons but other than that, its all the same

In the end, it's just: twist some dials, push some buttons and move some sliders and hope, that it sounds what leaves the other side  ;D

I second that. The audience doesn't care what kind of setup you use. The audence cares for a custom crafted music experience! You need to find the tool that will let you achieve that goal without getting in your way, and being the most fun to use at the same time.

In that regard, I can only recommend the S4 :)

the sad part is that most venue bookers aim to book CDJ users
