Title: Videogaming?
Post by: Stripe Kazama on 16.02.2010, 00:21:15
I know there's been Super Smash Bros in the past, but why not upgrade and have other kinds of tournaments? I mean, there's Tekken 6 that just came out... there's Soul Calibur 4..

Come up with suggestions, folks :D

Something involving PCs might be nice. Would anyone be interested in a laptop LAN party?

I could provide a games room with some Bemani games (Pop'n music, Beatmania IIDX) or Guitar Hero if wanted.

Guitar Hero, Halo and other great shoot'em up games :)

While it's certainly an "okay" social activity that might have its place at a convention, I would love to see something more "on topic". I don't mind a certain number of "off-topic" events, but just in case, let's keep in mind that this is a furry convention, and events that have no relation to neither the furry genre nor the furry community, will only be incorporated as fillers for timeslots and rooms that would remain unclaimed otherwise.

We're talking about those "open end" evening slots (starting ~20:00)

Same principle there. If nobody needs the slot for something more furry related, they're free to be used by filler events. But it would be against the purpose of the convention to decline furry-themed events in favor of non-furry-themed events. Granted, that's not the case right now, but if we ever get into such a situation, I would like to make sure we've got clear priorities  :)

How about some furry-themed videogames then? :)

I could bring my copy of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz if someone else can bring a Wii, and I've heard people talk about Bloody Roar quite a bit (never played it myself, though), and I'm sure there are plenty of others out there!

Bloody Roar!!!
I don't have it, but it's e very good game! (Like Street Fighter, but the charakters can chance into Antromorphic animals)
This is a very good idea!

While it's certainly an "okay" social activity that might have its place at a convention, I would love to see something more "on topic".

Well technically, the disco, the game room, the music sig, clearing out the hotel beer supply, and having the reception hall sponsered by jagermister are also 'off topic' - if you really want to use that term. :)

Besides, I would have thought that a big empty space full of things that are trying to kill you (EG: a first person shooter) would be very much 'on theme' for the serengeti! ;D As would a bunch of fat white europeans fighting each other over pointless scraps of dirt and ignoring what the 'locals' want. ;)

Well, how about furry themed videogaming night tournaments? Like, one night take Bloody Roar, the other night Super Smash Bros... etc

You are absolutely right, so let's remove all furry content and just play Nintendo all day long while getting drunk.

*rolls eyes*

As you can see, everyone else in this thread took the hint, and tried to be constructive. Except for you.

How about reading more than the first line I wrote, and not painting it all black and white? I didn't say each and every event has to be 100% non-ambiguously furry, I just gave my Programming Director an instruction to mind the priorities so we have a con that actually feels like a con, and not like 1000 furries coincidentally meeting in a non-related place. I've experienced conventions who felt like that, and I'm doing my best that eurofurence will not become like that.

And you know that we have no influence on who the hotel chooses as their sponsors. So maybe the Maritim has "Bacardi" beer mats, I don't care.

Quote
As would a bunch of fat white europeans fighting each other over pointless scraps of dirt and ignoring what the 'locals' want. Wink

Now you are going too far. If you have some real constructive contributions to make this convention better, I'll be all ears. But please keep your destructive cynical remarks to yourself, especially when insinuating things I didn't say. Thank you.

Are we done having fun, yes? Then we, maybe, can back change to topic, I guess?

There's no problem with video gaming, so there is no "no". But it's over half a year until EF and when it comes to programming we're in the early stages. So, also, no finall "yes". I read  topics (like this), add a note to my files and give some comment/advice.

And since it's this early and we're likely to have 70 Slots for Panels/Work Shops/Round Tables there is plenti of space left for a huge amount of furry-themend events. No panic.

And at least: no sarcasm. That goes for both sides.

So I've come up with a small list of multiplayer games with animal/furry characters in them. If there's a game you like that I left out, feel free to quote the list and add to it! :)

• Fur Fighters (Dreamcast)
• Chu Chu Rocket (Dreamcast)
• Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (Wii)
• Smash Brothers Melee/Brawl (Gamecube/Wii)
• Rayman Raving Rabbids (Wii)
• Bloody Roar (PS2)

I can bring Smash Bros. and Super Monkey Ball, but not the Wii itself. I might be able to bring some GC/Wii controllers, though.

Wii is no problem. I can bring one along with me (if wanted).
Also I can provide a PS3, Gamecube (sadly without controllers) and maybe a ps2.
Sooo if needed PM me.

When planning this event, keep in mind that there is a difference between PAL and NTSC versions and that most unmodded consoles only play one, not both.

Oi, that's a good point. All of my games are NTSC (North America, specifically). I can still bring controllers, though! I've got Gamecube, Wii, Xbox and PS3 ones if needed.

Well my Wii is modded (so can offer a lot of Wii games), PS3 doesn't have regional codes for games, Gamecube just needs a CD (which I have xD). I only can't offer xbox or PS2 ^^ So if you have games for the consoles I told and there is a games event, bring em on =D

*wants !*
(I can provide a ASC Popn controller and a regular IIDX controller if you need)
Bemani games, and *-hero games nowadays always draw a small crowd, and they are fun !

And to answer some critics, Popn Music definitely is somewhat furry !

Far Cry 2 kinda fits the Eurofurence theme I guess.
I'll bring my gamer laptop along anyway, since it will be used to playback and edit my stuff. As well as acting as a dump station for all my photos.
Personally I can get as far as bringing a LAN cable and/or a 4-port Linksys router. That's all I got.  ;D

OK, I've got the following furry-related games I can bring along to EF16:-

Bloody Roar (PS1)
Bloody Roar 2 (PS1)
Bloody Roar 3 (PS2)
Bloody Roar: Primal Fury (GameCube)
Brutal: Paws of Fury (SNES and emulation)
Starwing/Starfox (SNES and emulation)
Starfox Adventures (GameCube)
Starfox Assault (GameCube)
Lylat Wars (N64)

(All games are PAL versions.)

I won't have time to play them myself, but fellow furs are welcome to borrow them as long as I get them back early on Sunday morning. (Got to leave by around 10AM!!)

Post by: foxb on 03.03.2010, 11:20:20
The Wheelman, Guitar Hero and House of the Dead Overkill all had furry game devs help make them so maybe it could be related that way. ;)

TBH games makes a nice alternative to Dancing, drinking, or drawing. I find it annoying in the daytime schedule as gaming always seems to impact of other event (by dragging people away for tournaments, etc) but the evening is a chill and have fun with friends time IMO so it works quite well.

That said you won't find me anywhere near the games room, i spend all day designing the retched things and would much rather be bouncing around in fursuit and drinking my sorrows away. ;)

I love singing in guitar hero.. Mmmm singing in rock songs make me moist  ;D

Not to mention in the "fillers" you can complain that your beer is empty, and hear your voice come out in the speakers.. Sometimes it actualy gets you a beer  8)

Wonders if its possible to actually play guitar hero in a fursuit  ::)

Okay guys. Since I'm going to start with bringing the programm in order during next week(s) I need a "person in charge" for this. Please write me to events@eurofurence.org :)

A reminder: there's still no person in charge for this "all evening event". If no one pipes up until Sunday, 01.08 this event is not going to take place.

Okay everyone. Since I took over the part of the room I need some help of you guys (since I'm not rich xD)
I thought about a "Every-night-a-different-tournament". Since it's not much time till then I'm not doing a poll which games you'd like to play (but you still can give your opinion till the end)

Day 1: Super Smash bros. Brawl (Wii)

Day 2: Super Street Fighter IV (PS3)

Day 3: Rythm Game challange (Mix of 3 different rythm Games like Pop'n Music, Guitar Hero or RockBand, DanceDanceRevolution)

Day 4: Dunno yet xD

Sooo
If anyone has the following stuff and wants to bring it with you (ofcourse you can bring anything else you like) I'd be very gratefull:
3 Wii-Motes + Nunchucks
2 Dance mats for DDR

So those are the things I don't have but would need (or I have to think of something different xD)

Hi there, I think the DDR stuff has already been taken care of in this thread : https://forum.eurofurence.org/index.php/topic,2409.0/topicseen.html .

On a related note, i'm a huge Popn fan and looking forward to day 3 ;)

That would be awesome p.p
If I can't find it on time I'd have to play everything free again x____x
in that short time nearly impossible (god I hate the enjoy mode.... give me faster songs)

I'd love to take part in a bit of gaming whilst at EF, though I wouldn't want to spend all my time playing games, if I wanted to do that I'd just stay at home hehe.

Though is this gonna be the sort of thing where people just show off their 'l33t' skills?, doing 'Through The Fire And Flames' blindfolded and hoisted upside down from the ceiling? Or someone doing insane pad bustin' doubles on DDR?

Just wondering if it'd cater for all types of players and not just the ones who clearly have far too much time on their hands?
Title: Re: Videogaming?
Post by: Keidran on 08.08.2010, 09:52:57
Well the DDR room (with just DDR starts from 19:00 o clock and the tournament room at 20:00
The tournament room has the estimated time till 0:00 (longer if tournaments last longer, but not shorter)
so it's in the evening hours where not so many acts happen and so you can't stay all day long inside of it ^^

So if you wanna show your Leet skills, then you could do it at DDR or at one of the tournaments listed above.
Dunno how much free play there will be.

I'f people are up for it, I could bring a xbox360 with Kinect and Dance central for EF17. A little more then stomping going on there :P

Sadly the game doesn't have two players facing off at the same time, you take turns.
But you can have 2 back up dancers :P

It be true~

There's just one specific note to if you would bring Kinect..
Make sure the BG noise stays minimal, I tried to play Kinect at an Anime convention but due to
Background noise the game automatically paused and did weird things..

Just a little thing to keep in the back of the head.

I dunno if you can disable the mic.. But it was incredibly annoying at the con..
(I Don't have Kinect myself.. But I hope to get it at some point)
Title: Re: Videogaming?

Well I have been playing it at private party's, with laugher and people speaking loudly, no problem.

Then again we haven't had any luck with getting the Kinect to do anything by voice command :D

But I recall the kinect needs you to call the xbox by name before it takes commands.. So it might be a software error.
