Title: Eurofurence 2012 APP!
Post by: TraxSwe on 01.07.2012, 00:56:39
Finally got the time to sit down and update this post. A lot of things has happened since i first posted this and now EF draws closer. I will start by thanking all of you that have helped contributing so far (and those that still are contributing).

The current status of the apps are as follows,

iPhone (min Os version 5.1): In Apple Store, search for Eurofurence or click here (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/eurofurence/id547979097?l=sv&ls=1&mt=8#). Current version 1.0.
Android (min android version: 2.2): On Google Play, search for Eurofurence or click here (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.traxswe.eurofurence). Current version 1.2.

Live database has been published.

Android Version 1.2:
- Maps are now zoomed out
- Twitter links now work
- Maps follow if you go to landscape mode
- Room/Time/Date is now shown when you click on an event
- Small cosmetic fix

Android Version 1.1:
- Got the zoom to work using a WebView. Somewhat similar to what was suggested earlier in this thread.
- Added bigger dropdown menu items.
- Added both channels as an option in the twitter tab.
- Issue when downloading large files. This issue should now be solved.
- Clarifying text to the maps
- Fixed a problem when the app reported it needed WiFi
- Fixed an issue that would cause you to lose your notes if the database download failed
- Fixed layout issues in copyright tab
- Fixed an issue that would crash the app if you clicked on any event in the app
- Added new more accurate dealer and venue maps
- Fixed an issue that would prevent the app from reopen if the database got corrupt (through downloading)
- Intro tab is now only available in portrait mode. Reason is that if download the database and then turn the mobile, it resets the download
- Fixed an issue causing the app to stay in portrait mode after visiting the notes tab. Now it correctly follow the orientation once you leave the tabs notes/intro
- Fixed progress bar in the twitter tab. It is not correctly shown when you scroll down in the list of twitters.

Bugs after version 1.2:
- If you switch between portrait and landscape modes, then the data is retested. Example: You select a room in the events dropdownlist to show only events in that room. If you now go to landscape view, the search is retestedand it will show everything again.

After you have downloaded and installed the app you will be prompted to download the database. The current database only contains the information that was at hand when i created it. So a lot of things are missing from it. The bright side is that i implemented a function to update the database (also an alert function) that will alert you when i publish the "closer to EF" database.
That database will contain much more information and the download size will be between 5 and 15mb so WiFi if preferable. At the hotel you can access the hotel WiFi in certain areas.

The same goes for the twitter function. You can read twitters from #ef18 and @eurofurence. However it's not possible to tweet anything from the app (plan for future app).

I hope that it will be useful for the lot of you and i would appreciate as much feedback as possible.

Trax!

ps. Don't miss the cute cat on the last tab inside the application ;-)

// Old post

Thought it was time that someone did an APP for EF this year. So i took on the burden and created one.

The app is in beta-testing, meaning that the DATA IS NOT ACCURATE and i use that data purely for testing. There will be a live version that will be released before EF.
Feel free to download the app and test it and get back to this thread, email traxswe@gmail.com, FA: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/traxswe or twitter: @traxswe with your thoughts, comments and ideas. But please refrain from stupid or silly comments.

Currently the app exists only for android 2.3.3 and above (roughly 80% of all android mobiles).
Screen shot from my Galaxy S: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bmrt29pa4tx2dgt/SC20120701-003514.png

- The idea behind the dealers tab is that dealers can send me their info and i will then make it available in the app. That way the customers and others can easily see the work of dealers from anywhere in the hotel and, i hope, this will bring more business to the dealers den.
- Twitter is included in the app but is restricted to 6-9 days (twitter owns limitations), hopefully people will start to post a lot and thus we should be able to ignore this.
- Simple Notepad included to write down your upcoming room partys, room numbers, telephone number or similar. This is not shared with anyone.

I just started on the IPhone version, will see if i manage to get that done in time.

Improvements/Bugs/Ideas:
- (bug) Limited tweet channels
- (bug) Inserting an apostrophe in notes would cause it to crash
- (bug) Progressbar not always showing on Honeycomb (and higher?)
- (bug) App name in my applications is showing on 2 lines. Need to rename the app to EF 2012
- (improvement) If given permission, i would like to add the attendeelist and the fursuit badges, who is that fursuit?
- (improvement) Tweeting from the app
- (improvement) Landscape view not always optimal
- (improvement) The icon tab row is way too small to be useful on a normal phone (Google Nexus 1 here). How about making these vertical buttons that fill the screen and switch to sub-screens when you click them?

Permissions to run this:
Full internet access - used to get twitters.
Check network state - check if the phone has internet access to fetch twitters

Also thanks for those that have helped so far, you know who you are!

What is happening? What does it say?

You need to be running Android 2.3.3, Wildfire runs 2.1 by default. But i think you can update that in your phone, HTC normally has a good updating system.

Seems quite interesting, have it downloaded to my Xperia and the only minor problem I can spot with it so far is that "Eurofurence" doesn't seem to fit on one line, so the e ends up being positioned directly under it.

On the beta tab?

Not sure how I can take a photo of it, so it kinda looks like this on the app name, if it makes any sense;

"Eurofurenc
e 2012"

Like I said, tis nothing major or such.

Can you check your Android version. Should be under settings. On Samsung phones it's under Settings->About.

Also make sure that you can install non-google play apps. At least Samsung has such a setting.

I know what you mean. The problem is that i can't control that text size. Might rename it to just EF 2012 instead.

I couldn't test it myself so far, but the screenshot looks really nice and I sure like the idea. Let alone a map of the venue would sure be useful as well.

So, I hope you can get this done for actual EF and maybe even gain some official approval.

Best wishes, and I'll see if I can give more ideas later on. Pleae keep us updated.^^

Can you take a screenshot from your Nexus? (Need to see it visually).

Also do you have another app that uses this layout, need to see what you mean.

Any news on the IPhone App?

Anything we can do to help? :)

Just got started with the iphone version but it should go slightly faster to build since i now know roughly what i want and what information that will be displayed.

As for help, there are 3 things.
1) I need help gathering accurate data regarding furry friendly restaurants, drinks at the hotel, parking info etc
2) Need to email the dealers and offer them a place in the app. Idea is that they send me their information, ill add it and its then displayed in the live version. (Only those dealers interested in this)
3) Could you perhaps bring up my question if i can get the attendee list and/or fursuit badges. Idea is to put them in to see and find fursuits at EF.

Ok, lets see if that helps:

1. You can drop Mystifur a mail, he has all the restaurant information: fursuit-team@eurofurence.org

2. Good idea, and don't forget to give them a deadline. I will send you my information as soon as i get the mail

3. Its a good idea but this list is confidential, we can not put it online.

Please make also sure the app will be available in the Apple App Store, Riffuchs also has the information about that.

Nightfox,TraxSwe, I have to e-mail all the dealers anyway.

The Den has all their needed data and we plan to print a "who is selling what and where" in the conbook anyway, I can help out with all the important information. Maybe combining it with the links to the artists'/ dealers' galleries on FA, DA or their homepages?

Just let me ask them if anyone don't want to be published (it's easier that way around).

Until when do you need the data?

It seems to be impossible to open twitter-messages (in order to follow links or reply for example)

They can right now not be opened. Adding this to the bug list. Forgot about it ^_^

Will see about the app store. The problem is that it takes 4-6weeks for a normal app to be approval, slightly faster if you are lucky.
But that would then require me to have all data in place since i added the database to the project (thus making the size in the app store bigger) and i am not loading it after the app has been downloaded. My idea is that you can download it once and then you would have all data except the twitters.

2 ways with a database, either you do what i did, you load add it to the actual app (what i did) or you download the data after the app has been installed. Maybe i should change this and download the contents after the app has been downloaded.

That would be great. Will get back to you regarding when i need the data.
Also already got a linking system in place to view a webbpage. So each dealer will have that option as well.

Jut out of curiosity, as App Stores were brought up, for Android, will you put it into the Play Store, or will the final one just be released as .apk-file?

I don't really mind, but yeah, out of curiosity.^^

And well, best wishes to you, hope you don't have to much stress with etting so much stuff done in such short time.

I dislike Apple a lot. On a scale from 1 to 100 then it's about 1250 right now.

How to develop an IPhone app and test/publish it:
First you need to find a Mac. I mean, it would be too easy to use a PC to develop an IPhone app.
Then when you have found your Mac you need to register for App Store. I mean register as in filling in all your personal details except for the shoe size!
After that you can download this program called XCode that let's you develop an IPhone, IPad or Mac OS program.
<-- This is where i am right now.
Now comes the funny part.
To deploy this app on my friends IPhone to test it. Using his IPhone to test it through the cable.
In order to do this you need to create a certificate. Fair enough.
Finally found "how-to" after some googling and registered on the "second apple portal".
Then i get a BIG message saying: Unauthorized Access. WTF!?
Turns out that in order to "test" my app on my friends IPhone, i have to pay $99. This will then create a license for me for one year which allows me to develop IPhone apps!

So my simple idea of just making the Android app into an IPhone app turned out not to be soo simple after all.
In order for me to publish it, test it or hell, just look at it, i need to pay $99.

I truly dislike Apple and i am still amazed on why soo many people develop apps for the IPhone, it's a mess!

Don't believe me?
https://developer.apple.com/programs/ios/
and this Q&A forum
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2564451/how-can-i-test-xcode-project-on-iphone

Developing my Android app went like this.
Download the free program Eclipse.
Install Android stuff.
Write code.
Press, generate APK file. Boom done!

Fauho: don't worry - this app is not meant to be a means of official information (even if it becomes one - it is not the only one!) - it is a gimmick written by an enthusiastic con-goer.

TraxSwe: I didn't write much in my first post - but I didn't want to only complain *g* I really like the idea of the app and it looks good so far - pity that Apple is such a pain in the ass.

One of the possible alternatives for iPhones is to have a web application (ie. html5 and that kind of stuff). But that would require a constant connection to a web server of course.

It would appear it does not fetch new twitter messages; Unless they are only supposed to be ones that #Eurofurence posts directly.

Yea =/
Much easier with Android. Added that to the todo-list. Tweeting will most likely not be possible from the APP since i don't have time to implement it in time, if this is to also hit Google Play.

In this lies the importance of getting the app in the store - I fixed it within hours after being notified, but some people still didn't know there was a fix available during the last day.

(For the curious: I forgot testing if timestamps were correctly parsed after changing input data formats from custom XML to CSV, due to severe time constraints. I'm very sorry.)

Sorry for the late replies. First i missed it and then Riffuchs locked me out of this thread :-P But now i'm back, YAY!

Mrawr which name will it have in appstore?, does it work with ipad too :3?

I have named it "Eurofurence", so if Apple approves it and it's released then it should be just Eurofurence.

It will not work on an iPad. You will be able to install it but it will be in the size of a mobile phone, sorry. Also landscape view is not implemented. On an Android that is handled automatically, but not on an iPhone and i did not have the time before deadline to make it in landscape view.

I heard about this app from last year but i had no clue as to who built it and what it looked like. Can you send some screen shots or an non-google-play version of last years app?
For this year i don't think i will have the time to change it much. I will submit it in a few days, just fixing some minor details. I also need to keep both apps fairly similar. So if i change one, i should then also change the other and i don't know how long the review processes take. We could meet up at EF and discuss it.

Oh, btw.. one major thing.. make sure that time zones work.. I remember last year one issue was that all events were out by one hour on my phone since I live in the UK and run 1 hour ahead of EF.
First, why don't you change to localtime? Just curious.
Secondly, it will still be a problem with that this year. The time right now stored as a string. I did this since i had to speed up the process of development. Had 2 month to develop 3 apps next to my regular job. I have never had the chance to program an app before, so programming 3 apps in 2 month and having to try and get them published was a challenge. Also i have never experience Objective-C (iPhone) so it took a little while to get the hang of how that worked.
Will look into it and it then depends on the review processes. First i want the base version out and once that's out i will then see what time it's left and if it can make it in.

Is there any way to have that app running on my HTC Wildfire (Android 2.2.1)?
No sorry. Some of the techniques that i use requires 2.3.3. So i choose that as the lowest version needed to run. I would have loved to program in an even higher version but since a lot of people run lower versions, i then settled for 2.3.3.
Can't you upgrade to 2.3.3? I thought most android mobiles could be upgraded to that version?

I should still have the apk somewhere, not sure if I also have the latest code. If you PM me where to send it, I can do so =3

As for Android versions: 25% of the Android devices that logged on in the past 14 days is below version 2.3.3. (http://developer.android.com/about/dashboards/index.html) What 2.3.3 features did you use? I believe my app ran on anything from 2.1 upwards, last year.

22% according to those numbers :-p
Right now i am utilizing parts of the TimeUnit class for twitter (calculate when a post has been made) that is not available for 2.1 and 2.2. I don't have the time to do this differently right now. I checked and that's more or less the only part that is not compatible. I thought that another section would be incompatible but that passed.

I am utilizing parts of the TimeUnit class for twitter (calculate when a post has been made) that is not available for 2.1 and 2.2. I don't have the time to do this differently right now. I checked and that's more or less the only part that is not compatible. I thought that another section would be incompatible but that passed.

Would it be possible to make a slightly different version of the app without the Twitter part but working on older Android version?

Got it working for 2.2. So if nothing else causes problem between now and google publish then it should work on 2.2 phones.

2.1 was not possible without a lot more changes.

Yay, finally available in Play Store. *downloads*

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.traxswe.eurofurence

Thanks for your work very much.^^
Looks very nice already, eagerly awaiting for "closer to EF" when the final database is available.

Only thing that's a pity is that I cannot zoom out of the venue map, but well, otherwise, very nice work.

Thanks^^

Yea i had a hard time with the zoom. It works on the iPhone version but not on the Android. Did not find a pre-built library for it and i did not have time to implement it from scratch. =/

I am working on the "closer to EF" database as we speak. Its just a matter of me finding/getting and putting everything in the database *shrugs* But its progressing at least ^^

Did you use setBuiltInZoomControls(true) and then displayZoomControls(true) ?
Did you place the MapView inside some other scrollable view? (You cannot nest one scrollable view inside another without issues.)

Isn't MapView Google Maps ?`

I use a normal Image control to display the maps.

In that case either http://android-developers.blogspot.de/2010/06/making-sense-of-multitouch.html
or save yourself some time and use a WebView to display the map. It has these controls build in.

There is no way to switch to the map of the other levels, is there?

You can choose the levels by pressing that menu option-button of your phone, if that's what ya mean.

Didn't look for the menu-hint in compatibility mode anymore the menu+search hardware buttons no longer exists and the menu function is deprecated and replaced by the action bar.

Maps-> Currently only Ground floor, First floor, Dealers den 1 and Dealers den 2.

There was a request for support for Android 2.2. My target from the beginning was 2.3.3. Wish that i could have made it in a higher version to utilize some of the new features but since people still use the older version then i had to go for them.

http://xrigau.wordpress.com/2012/03/15/using-an-actionbar-in-your-application-with-actionbarsherlock/  Works well with 2.2 .

The intents to start navigation and maps are:

Intent i = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse("google.navigation:q=New+York+NY"));
mContext.startActivity(i);

and
the ones listed here:

Yea, about half way through the app i figured out that i needed to upgrade the layout. My biggest problem was time and knowledge.
I started this project beginning of June and i had zero knowledge in app programming at this point. The goal was to produce 2 apps for EF. One for Android and one for iOs. I have been a programmer for around 15 years, working with it on and off. I have programmed in CGI, PHP, C, Java, VB and C#, C# being my normal language to program in since 6 years now.

So 2 month to program 2 apps for 2 different platforms without any past app programming, without a clue how to design it in a good fashion, mind you i have never owned an iPhone, just one Android device. Besides that my normal full time job as a train driver, some sort of life, USA project that i am co-president of and just being lazy as a normal house cat! This meant that i had to learn a lot of things from scratch, especially app specific things. I had knowledge of Java and that helped me but only to an extent since the way to program an app is different from programming a Windows program in Swing. As for the iOs version. I had programmed a bit in C/C++ so i have the knowledge of pointers and such but i have NEVER ever programmed in Objective-C (found a good tweet about it: Objective-C is the native language of Hell).
So this i had to more or less learn from scratch along with how to do the layout in both apps. It's a bit easier if you don't have to think about the layout but i was not that fortunate.

The funny part was that i also produced a third app during this time for the convention NärCon (narcon.se) in Sweden, end of July. So 3 apps in 2 month *shrugs*. I think they came out pretty good for my produced apps.
Someone pointed out a different design approach and i think i will develop in that direction for next year, along with one of those nice actionbars ^^. Didn't even know that concept until you posted it ;-)
Still need to find "the apple way" to design iPhone apps. My biggest problem, as i wrote, is that i don't own an iPhone. So i can't just download a lot of apps and check different layouts and see pros/cons with them.

It has been a lot of fun at least to produce the apps.

So far the biggest challenge was to get the iPhone tab images to show up. Me and NewEinstein tried soo many different types of images until we finally found the correct sort. Wish they could have just posted an example image at one point so that people could actually figure out how/what to create.

Best regards
Trax the civilized house cat!

Just downloaded it, and I have to say: great work!

Of course not much data is available, the only thing I found is that 2-way scrolling doesn't work on the floormap.

Also for twitter, would it be possible to merge all the feeds for #ef18, @eurofurence and maybe also a generic search for the word eurofurence? Maybe you could enable/disable specific searches then and have everything together in one feed?

Anyway, thanks for making this! ;D

I removed the zooming, if that is what you meant?
Could not get it to work in time and i did not have the time to find a solution for it. Will fix that for next year.

As for twitter. I will take a look at it but i can't make any promises. Depends on if i can turn 2-3 queries into one. If not then it will not be possible as it is right now.

No it will not cost any money and it does not have any hidden fees attached to it. It's completely free.

I got it and the reason is: OutOfMemory.
You need at least 3mb for the current database and the new one will be even bigger (release database), between 5 and 15mb.

I read that too. The problem is, though, that I have over 20MB free, so it should be fine, right? Maybe the system reports low memory and the app takes it as out of memory. Just a thought.

The database gets saved on your phone and not on your SD-card.

I did the map-zoom with a WebView last year too, worked like a charm. Also, I feel sorry for you, having to use Obj-C. I had the misfortune last year for a school project. Fun to see you did this as your first app project, though - last year's app was MY first Android app, too. And I had only 2 weeks =D

Use "alogcat" from the market to provide a stack-trace and log-messages.
I guess it tries to load the DB-dump into memory instead of streaming it into a local SQL database or temporary file and
then gets an OutOfMemoryError because the ram on that phone is too small.

Ok, my review of the Andoid App (just downloaded):

First: It's awesome you do this, and I really like the fact we have this now. It's a really neat app. Keep up the great work!

That said, there's a few minor issues I've noticed..

1. First start: Download Database: Be more clear that you need WiFi to download the DB. Mobile Data isn't enough, it really wants WiFi for some reason. I know the error message says "Check your WiFi", but probably something like "Make sure you are connected to WiFi to download the Database" is more precise. Or "Please connect to WiFi first.", if you need it shorter.

2. Notes: The gray background only covers part of the text display area. Probably doesn't scale with phone resolution?

3. Events: App force closes when you click on "No events yet" under the Events section.

4. Events: The drop-down selectors are not all visible on screen. "All dates" is there, "All rooms", too, but the last one is cut off as "All type" with the rest of the button missing.

5. Events: I know it's too late to implement an event reminder and planning functionality.. but how about simply being able to mark an event as "Favourite", like, one of these stars next to it you can click on to light it up, and a filter to say "Only show me favored events"? That should probably be more straight forward to implement for now.

6. Map: The map has issues being scrolled sideways (only goes a set amount of pixels, then stops, no matter if I keep swiping on), and it's irritating that I cannot zoom in or out using pinch-zooming, like I'm used to with any other image.

7. Map: It's not apparent that you can switch the maps by pressing the menu button on your phone, especially since that button does not work at all anywhere else in the app (other than the twitter page).. people won't know they can press it, and won't even try. Maybe have a "map selector" on screen, rather than just displaying the first map, and leave out the "hidden menu".

8. Map: If the maps show symbols, like the S-shaped arrows on the Dealer's Den maps, maybe include something that explains what the symbol means. At the moment, I am guessing it's power outlets, for some reason?

9. Map: At the moment you use the German maps. I know Cairyn has english maps.. maybe get those off him.

10. Trax: Your credits page is larger than the screen, meaning I need to scroll to see the text to the right of the picture of your fursuit. Text pages should not scroll left and right, only up and down, so a small layout change to fix that would be awesome :)

That's all I can spot at the moment.. the only real issue there is the handling of the map, and the force close on events, the rest is more "cosmetic". :)

Thanks for taking the time =) Hard to find all issues and problems by yourself.

That said, there's a few minor issues I've noticed..

Will take a look at this for version 1.1.

2. Notes: The gray background only covers part of the text display area. Probably doesn't scale with phone resolution?
I need a screen shot. If possible get one and send it to my email: traxswe@gmail.com

3. Events: App force closes when you click on "No events yet" under the Events section.
I need a screen shot. If possible get one and send it to my email: traxswe@gmail.com

4. Events: The drop-down selectors are not all visible on screen. "All dates" is there, "All rooms", too, but the last one is cut off as "All type" with the rest of the button missing.
Problem is that the dropdown thingies are to big to fit in one line. So that line is actually scrollable but that's not the best way to do it. Will change that layout for next year.

5. Events: I know it's too late to implement an event reminder and planning functionality.. but how about simply being able to mark an event as "Favourite", like, one of these stars next to it you can click on to light it up, and a filter to say "Only show me favored events"? That should probably be more straight forward to implement for now.
Will not have time to fix this either since it requires a lot more work. But i will redo the entire event tab for next year to make it more useful.

6. Map: The map has issues being scrolled sideways (only goes a set amount of pixels, then stops, no matter if I keep swiping on), and it's irritating that I cannot zoom in or out using pinch-zooming, like I'm used to with any other image.
Resolved in version 1.1.

Will look into this and see if i can squeeze it into version 1.1.

8. Map: If the maps show symbols, like the S-shaped arrows on the Dealer's Den maps, maybe include something that explains what the symbol means. At the moment, I am guessing it's power outlets, for some reason?
Yes they are electric cords. I took the dealer maps directly from Alpha Ki and added them. Problem this year is that the maps are actually part of the app and not something that you download. This will be fixed next year.

9. Map: At the moment you use the German maps. I know Cairyn has english maps.. maybe get those off him.
Problem this year is that the maps are actually part of the app and not something that you download. This will be fixed next year.

10. Trax: Your credits page is larger than the screen, meaning I need to scroll to see the text to the right of the picture of your fursuit. Text pages should not scroll left and right, only up and down, so a small layout change to fix that would be awesome :)
Small fix, adding it in version 1.1.

That's all I can spot at the moment.. the only real issue there is the handling of the map, and the force close on events, the rest is more "cosmetic". :)
Will use a totally different layout for next year. Using action bars and/or steam/facebook menu.

Must say that i love your avatar icon, so cute :-)

Force close:

Marci is amazing. I really like her style.. it's a shame she's been commissioned by so many babyfurs in the past that her pictures are basically synonymous with babyfur art these days.. but, nontheless and despite it all, I still really like her style :)

I'm on a Desire HD, with a custom ROM that's based on the current latest HTC firmware for it (So, I'm on Gingerbread (2.3.5), with  HTC Sense 3.5. Rom is Android Revolution HD 7.0.4, Kernel 2.6.35.14 (RCMIX)

Like said, I'd really not worry about the gray background.. could be my cooked ROM, the display drivers, or anything in between.

Just a quick note: Once (read: in some days) I've ironed out the last inconsistencies in Pentabarf, the final export will be made public. It will include an iCal, xCal and XML version of the events. As far as I understand these formates, they are made for (already existing) calendar applications. Never used those, though, bu I think they have alarm/notify features bult in. : )

Hi, at first i want to thank you for this App i think it will make manythings easier at EF.

But at the same time there are 2 things that could annoy some people (i could live with them but... you know people are people).

One thing is the Map, or to be accurate the way someone could move the App, it looks like you can only moving her Left/Right or Up/Down but not diagonally.
I don´t know if you are working on that and if there is time left for it. Maybe it is just my Phone but i don´t know.

The other point is that the "turn your phone to the side" thing isnt realy working, looks like the app didn´t notice the postion of the phone correct or ignore it.

The Phone i use is a HTC Sensation XE with Android 4.0.3 (and HTC Sense 3.6), App version is 1.0 .
I hope that you could understand what i wrote and sorry for my bad English  :-[.

p.s if i open the App i could turn the phone to the side and the app will switch too, but once i hit >notes< it will turn back and refuses to switch until i reopen it.

Glad that you liked it.

Maps will be fixed in version 1.1 (see initial post).
I did this purposely on notes since if you rotated the phone you would loose what you had just typed. I did not have the time to build code to fix it so i simply blocked it and made sure that when you are in notes, you have to hold your phone in portrait mode.
Did not see that it stayed in portrait mode after you left the notes tab. Will have a look at this and hopefully i will have a fix in version 1.1 for it.

Yup, got it and found that bug. Was a nasty one hidden away but i eventually found it. Always a lot of debugging when programming *shrugs*
Tani's picture illustrate the problem of debugging: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3792389/

In worst case scenario, just write the problem in German. I do understand that as well  :)

Hi,

I have an HTC wildfire with Android 2.2.1 (can't update to a higher version)
and I was able to download and install the app, as well as starting it but as soon
as I start downloading the database the app crashes!

Possible to solve that or do I have to live with it since my Phone is old and slow? xD

If this is the same issue as previously discussed then this will be resolved in version 1.1.

Next year =/

Did not manage to get one finished in time due to my full time job and co-running a company in the us.
Got to about 20% of it but it's to far from a publish state.

This is actually kind of funny since i normally program in C# (used on Windows Phone).

Seriously, there is no Palm or Symbian version either. It's probably possible to export an ICS or other calender format version of the time table, but that's up to conops whether they have the resources to maintain it.

There will be an iCal, xCal and XML file with the full event schedule online short before EF, in addition we'll publish a nice HTML version of the schedule which has pages for: all events of a day, all events in room X, list of speakers/moderators, events per speaker/moderator, full event list. You just need a browser and optionally a calender application that understands one of the ...Cal formats (I think all the important ones do).

Small bug report: When updating the database, the android app says "database downloaded, please restart". But you can't restart an app under android :) Going to the launcher and clicking on the icon again will only bring you to the screen you left the app in.

Double-click on the arrow back a few times while in the app and it will go out and shut down.

Version 1.1 is even better than before, thanks very much.
It's a pity the map cannot be zoomed out further, enen the smallest view is still quite big and close, but asides that, everything is nice and scrolling works fine now.

So, once more, thanks very much.

And I like how you only gave your app the permissions it really needs to have. Unlike some other people (hello, Google!)

Good to hear that it's working. New database is almost done and hopefully it can be released this weekend.

With permissions, no point in asking for anything then what's needed  :)

I just finished adding all events to the database ... I think we will put it online somewhen tomorrow. The App should then notify you that there is a new database version available for download.

EIN

PS: To all Android users who had installed the .apk file directly and not from the Google Play Store. Please install the app again from the store so you get the newest updates ... otherwise you are stuck in the beta version forever ;-)

Got a smartphone just in time for Eurofurence! So been playing around a bit with this application (which seems pretty neat, by the way), and found one bug (at least I think it's a bug), and I have two requests.

The bug: unable to click on links in the twitter feed (including picture uploads).

Requests: adding @EF_prime (https://twitter.com/EF_prime) to the twitter feed (if they'll be using that again this year), and making it possible to zoom out further on the map (as the default view is a bit too zoomed in, making it tricky to navigate).

The live database for the app has been released for both Android and iPhone along with a small update for the Android system 1.2.

Download the database from the Intro-tab. If you open the app a new you should be getting a notification about the new database version.

My goal was to produce an altogether new version but due to time constraints i am unsure if it will be realized for this year.
I will however add the much wanted events sorting and also a few more things.
