if i can make it to eurofurence next year, it would be my very first con iv been too.
so how did all you feel when you went to your first eurofurence, and how did people react to you??????

I felt really nervous at my first EF (EF 5) - I didn't know anyone, I'd never been to a con before, and outside of FurryMUCK, I hadn't really had any contact with other furs, either. But it was still fun, and I think these days, a "first con" is going to be much less intimidating, too - the whole con has become much more professional, and there's many more people there, too, so I'd assume it'll feel less "cliquish" nowadays. :)

My first EF was EF9, my first con at all was MMC6 in Germany...
And i was very nervous at that time... i did know some furs from chat, but i have never seen them before in RL.

So far, I've made EF4, EF7, EF8, EF10, EF11 and EF12.
Then there were MMC 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, Anthrocon 2003, 04, 05, 06 and Further Confusion 2003, 04, 05, 06.
Hey, the next con I attend will be my 20th Convention-Anniversary! :D

My first Eurofurence was EFX.
I really liked the very relaxing athmosphere, where artists just sat together and drew. I have been returning ever since.
Since I had a few contacts and had ventured to other conventions before (Anthrocon 2003 and Treecon01 for example) a few people were eager to meet me.

Well, my first EF was Eurofurence 4. What did I expect? Not much, actually. I feared that I'd meet a lot of strangers I don't share any interest with, or that it would be yet another boring computer geek meeting. Boy, was I wrong. I met some crazy, creative, bright and lovely people there, people I call friends today.
Much has changed ever since, as the European furry fandom grew also Eurofurence grew bigger. What once was a small furmeet (about 90 guests at EF4) now draws a crowd of more than 400 attendees. I've attended every single EF since then, Mephit Mini Con (another furry convention in Germany) since its second year, Further Confusion for the last two years and countless furry meetings and parties. But what remained the same all these years is the relaxed atmosphere and those crazy, creative, bright and lovely people.

My first EF was EF7, held at the Jugendherberge Freusburg in Kirchen, Germany, back in 2001 (and the venue for Mephit Mini Con 9 [2006] and 10 [2007], and also FilkCONtinental since 2000).
Being my first con, I wasn't really sure what to expect, though I was somewhat distracted with ensuring our party got there in one piece, as I was effectively "leader".
Oddly enough, we had occasion to pop in to the Travel Centre at either Brussels or Cologne (I can't remember which) and the member of staff we spoke to wasn't from Germany at all, but from Newhaven in East Sussex!

Since then, I've been to every Eurofurence, except EF9, and to Anthrocon 2003.

My first EF (it was EFXI) was a shock ;D
I had never heard about Furries before and what it was all about. I had thought those might only be some harmless artists and freaks, but they are REALLY freaks! Though most of them quite nice freaks ;)
And as you might ask - why the hell does someone who has no idea about furries attend to Eurofurence: only because of 2005-GoH Heather Alexander.
Your question: How did people react to you?
I realized that people naturally don't react at all. You are there, one of 400-500 people. Most of them have their group of friends to spend their time with. If you want people to react to you, you have to behave extraordinarily. Either that or be an artist or fursuiter or an outgoing person (or meet an outgoing person).
But I don't think you will regret to attend, Knightmare. You might find yourself overwhelmed at first but it will be worth everything. Trust me!

the more i read this the more i want to attend,like ever since i found furry (last september, 1 year ago) i have found that ever furry iv e-mail or talked to has been very freindly and helpfull i.e i once e-mailed tani and got a reply from cheetah saying she had forwarded my questions.
so im really looking forward to attending, mostly so i can perform in the fursuit show (im really excited about performing but il be s..ting myslef before hand)

same thing like shaevairc. but it was fun to see how freaky some of you guys are. we have friends that are freaks too, but not like that. and I hope we will see you next year again! we are no real "furries" but we like it to be with them ;)

My first furcon was EF11.
It was also my first contact with the furry world, and also the first time i wore a fursuit (ZigZag).
A lot of "first times", really:)
But it all went smoothly.
I already knew one furry guy (Aoikitsune), so he introduced me to his friends and.. there ya go, in less time than it takes to prononce "anthropomorphic", i was at ease...
I was so pleased with the general mood and kindness of people thare that i was back this year.. and that i intend to be next year too:)

My first Eurofurence was last year (EF11). I had been to other fur cons so I had some idea of what to expect. It helped that I dragged a friend of mine along so I wasn't traveling alone. (Yea for frequent flyer files!). When I got there, I found everyone to be very friendly and fun. This year, I found myself adopted by a group of UK furs and that was fun. I need to start training for next year, though, because those guys can drink! ;D

EF12 was my first con. It certainly was an experience! I did not really find anything negative at all - I loved the fact that there wasn't just one thread of programming. If you didn't want to go to the "main" event, there were at least two other things you could do (during the day anyway). If you wanted to lounge around in your room all day, there wasn't anything stopping you! What I had expected was a swarm of furs moving from one big event to the next big event, en masse! I'm glad it wasn't like that at all!
About people's reactions: Everyone recognises everyone else is a fur there too. Although I am not omnipresent I don't think I found any active hostility between anyone. But in general, people stick to their groups of friends, but if you're at a SIG for instance, people present at the SIG tend to get on well with one another. Although my German was rather poor, I had a good time in the Ramen Lounge, listening more than chatting to various German-speaking furs!
I must say what helped me a lot was that I knew some furs before I even arrived. In fact, a large number of furs went from the UK so although we were still outnumbered by about ten to one, it's still comforting to know that there'll be someone around anyway that you know.

Well EF13 Will prolly be the first con i go to! Ive never been to a Fur con Before, and, ive not met any furs in RL, (But thats changing this weekend ^.-) I'm gonna be nervous as hell ^^; Wich, means i'll prolly be extra exited aswell so ^^ Win Win!

Barring any financial disasters (like the one that stopped me going to EF 12) I will be in attendance!
It will be my first convention of any kind but I predict I will spend more time in the pool / gym / bar than anything else. I will be treating this as my first holiday in 8 years!

EF12 was my first con. I came there not really knowing anyone and I was really nervous, half expecting to just wander around lonely most of the con and not get to talk to anyone... I had managed to find some roommates that I trusted (and they turned out to be a great bunch!), but I arrived before all of them the first day and had no idea who to talk to. Everyone was busy getting settled in or other things, talking to their friends etc. and I just wandered around aimlessly, took pictures of the town and tried to look busy until my roomies arrived...
But then my nice roomies arrived and I got to know them and the evening came and everyfur became more sociable and there were suddenly lots of nice furs to talk to, SIGs were great and yeah ... it turned out fine, just like everyone had told me it would before I went. :)

The EF 13 will be my first Furry Con too... well my first TRUE big con, 'cause I will first attend a CeSFuR (small Czech and Slovak furry con) in April 2007. I am looking forward to see you all at the EF. I am making my own fursuit at the moment, white wolf with blue eyes, and I hope I will be able to personally thank miss TaniDaReal for posting her method and photos of "making of Savoy". I would not get very far without it...

I hope EF13 will be my first con too. Just after I turn 18 (29th july) it would be a great late birthday present to be able to go there. i also have lots of things to sort out first... first of all i need to finish my fursuit, then i need to arrange a ride, as i probably won't have a licence by then, and i also need to find a con roommate... money should be no issue, providing nothing goes wrong at work.

EF13 will be my first con as well. I'm really looking forward to it cause it'll be a few firsts for me. My first furry con and my first trip to another country since i was a little kid. I'm actually more worried about getting to and from the con than going to the con itself :P hopefully i can sort out a room share and travel with other furs from the UK as travelling alone dont sound too appealing :-[. And hopefully i'll have a fursuit by then as well ;D

I allready went to several Cons, but EF would be my first Fursuitercon. I allready met 2 Fursuiters at the Connichi2004 and now I'm working on a Cosplay for next years Connichi though it will be some sort of Fursuit as well. I hope I can effort it. I still have several other big bills to pay next year.

Eurofurence is not a Fursuit Convention, its a Furry Convention.
Plus minus 20% of our attendees are Fursuiters.

I am assuming that the wednesday and sunday are primarily for people to get to and leave the convention. If so, does that mean that people wont miss much if they arrive later on in the day on the Wednesday or leave early on the Sunday due to travel arrangements?

Yes, thats right. Program is from Thursday to Saturday eavening.

In the past, Wednesday has basically comprised Registration, the Opening Ceremony and a Barbecue, and Sunday is just checkout, the Group Photo and the AGM for Eurofurence e.V. (the non-profit organisation that organises EF)
If you opt to take the Air Berlin (http://www.airberlin.com/) flights between London Stansted (http://www.stanstedairport.com/) and Nuremberg (http://www.airport-nuernberg.de/english/) I'd suggest getting the morning flight from Stansted on the Wednesday and the evening flight back on Sunday, as that should ensure you get the full EF "experience" (trains permitting!)

This will be my first furcon too, hehe... and my mate's. @.@
Assuming we can figure out how to get there from the north of England. :P
We figure we'll hide in our room, and then when we get a bit of courage up we'll venture out and see what's going on. It's kinda special too as it's our first holiday together in a year and a bit of togetherness... should be a fun one, can't wait! :)

I havent meet that many furrys yet and have never been that deep into that, but i've always been interested in going to a convention to learn more and get into it.
I wanted to go to a EF before but never had the time or money.

it's funny realy as this is my first con and first EF and i have never been in anothe country (if you don't count the boat cruises) but still im not one bit nervous about this ^^ just hyper and eager to be there.

As like others - EF X was my first convention ever and in my memory it is (besides some details) one big colored blur. So much to see, so many people to meet so many new impressions and experiences.
I've been at several conventions afterwards (MMCs and EFs mostly) but one things stays constant: while other people get PCD (post con depression) I get a "pre con excitement" which causes me some sleepless nights and days where it is hard to concentrate on work starting about one or two weeks before the con...

Another first timer here. Haven't ever been to a con before so this is going to be interesting. My girlfriend will be coming too but other than that I've no idea about anyone else. How do you people find each other at these places?!
I hope to get to know some of you here so maybe I'll have a few more people to meet at the con itself. And if there's anyone around who recognises me, gimme a shout! ;)

I've been to another convention before FurFright2006 http://www.furfright.org/ it was wild time, in fact KwisA from Amsterdam, NL came there and was farthest traveled fursuiter at whole con :3 Amazing time!!!
Now, By time of EF13 this year I will have also taken the experience of AnthroCon07 *points at an Onkel Kage and chortles*
Now, you mentioned concern about being able to find people? Well at FurFright06 ( here after FF or FF06 ) since it was no more than 520 constituents it really was not that hard to find people in the small airport/hotel space :3 it was wild time!!!
Now in terms of large scale conventions such as AnthroCon ( here after AC ) this has been told of to me that people have planned very hard to meet each other at AC and never actually end up meeting up :/ I don't mean to frighten you, but if what i Understand is to be correct, that we will ESSENTIALLY have whole entire hotel to self save for people that have registered way long time before us... So if you are at the hotel you probably are a furry :3
I'm coming over from "Cross The Pond" from U S and A land >.> New York State to be exact, around Albany, the Capital of NY! I am very much so excited and cannot wait ;3

Well my first con was Eurofurence 7. i was rather nervous meeting so much furs i only known from chats and mailing lists. But the con was a lot of fun and i'm a bit sad afterwards for not visiting EF6 one year earlier. (i didn't attend to EF6 because it was held in the year i first discovered the furry fandom)
And now.. 6 years later Eurofurence 13 will be my 11th con i attend to . ( EF7 EF8 EF9 EF10 EF11 EF12, MMC7 MMC8 MMC9 and this years MMC10 which is next month). ;D

i was hoping to make ef13 my first con ever but due to a recent accident which resulted with me sustaining a severe spinal fracture that is now impossible all thanks to the incompetance of my local wrestling promotion, i still have to keep the brace on for like another 3 months.
hopefully i can make next year, good luck everyone with the con and im sorry i cant make it :'(

Truth to be told I don't know myself cause it will be my first too ^^, but I have a slight feeling it will be a lot of fun. Ow and Jonathan, take a look at the forum at francefurs.org, a lot of belgium furs participate with the french and vica versa, went to a furmeet some weeks ago with them, and it was a lot of fun, most of them will be at Eurofurence too. They planning a furmeet at Walibi park somewere in july, check it out ^.-

id be scared whenever i first go to an EF con since the last time i spoke any german was like 4 years ago during my exams in secondary school and the only thing i remember in german is how to count so id like need a translator when i get to germany otherwise il be in really deep doodoo

Well - you know - official EF language is English and concerning the remainder of Germany: everywhere, where it is really important, you'll find someone speaking English...

Reminds me of that joke where a German guy tries to buy a loaf of bread at a bakery in England.
Only one slight problem, the only English word he knows is apple-pie. :D
Not really realistic (but anyway), since so far I've only met one German who did not speak English.
Actually nearly all kept on speaking English to me, ::) even though I (mostly) understand German.

We tend to be polite, so if you want us to speak German (like, if you want to practice yours), then please remind us.
When I was back in London I hoped I would receive regular feedback about my english (words, grammar but especially pronounciation). But those British were even more polite - even when I kept on reminding them to correct me they wouldn't do it...
