Title: EF19 - International snack exchange?
Post by: A. Rakiri on 23.04.2013, 23:45:03
Hi, i'm wondering if the International snack exchange is gonna happen this year? If Gwyndolium can do it again this year that will be great!

If not, maybe i should have the honour to run it :3 if he don't want to do it?

If it happens, then i'm gonna bring Turkish snacks to sample out for you guys ;)

Would be nice to have. I missed it last year, but the year before I really enjoyed it.
If the event will be run again this year, I will try to participate.

I'm always up for this!  We'll be arriving directly to EF, so now there's less trouble with the food storage, too.

Yes! I've been in these every previous years and it's been really nice event. Eating, tasting new foods, chatting with people :) I surely bring something.

I'm sure you have sweets and maybe some local (non-alcoholic) drinks :)  Or local cheese, or local... anything! :D

It's not like I have a choice anyway as they will put it in the booklet no matter what haha.
Probably will do it again but want to speak to the charity to see if we can arrange something this time.

So Pinky if you are reading this I'll probably be poking you very soon about it ;)

For those of us unfamiliar with what Italy offers in the way of snacks, perhaps you might provide a list of popular snacks with details for each, such as:

1)  What is it called
2)  What is it like to eat (is it crunchy, salty, chewy, sweet, bite-sized, bar, biscuit, wafer, etc).
3)  What is it made of (primary ingredients).

Beeing partly italian, I would like to bring along the same stuff I brought two years ago:
- Fonzies (delicious corn/cheese puffs)
- Chinotto (non alcoholic herbal drink, like Jägermeister without alcohol)

I live close to Italian border but I've never heard of it. It would be interesting to try.

Btw, is this supposed to be sort of a buffet where people can walk around and sample?

Btw, is this supposed to be sort of a buffet where people can walk around and sample?

No, the idea is that it's a place where people can share food from their culture with other people who do the same and enjoy doing so.
It's about tasting small bits or sip small drinks and is in no way a replacement for dinner or lunch neither should it ever be.

Hope this helps :)

But I'll try to bring some goodies again if this event comes back. :3

Last year, me and my friend brought Chinotto, cedrata, some amaretti, and some Other stuffs.

Unfortunately, seems like i wont get to bring panettone or pandoro this year.

Title: Re: EF19 - International snack exchange?

I got no idea. Just like the previous years nothing is really planned out. We were just given a room and everything kind of went it's own way.

Maybe somebody of staff can varify wether it's in the conbook again yes or no.

hi There,

1.  Gwyndolium, are you the Panelhost Again?

&2. We have add it as Event again
Title: Re: EF19 - International snack exchange?
Post by: gwyndolium on 08.08.2013, 21:47:20
The event kind of runs itself. The only thing that has to be done is some tables to be put down in the room so people can put their stuff down.

We're in the middle of thinking up things to bring this year — I decided I will bring favourites from the last years for sure, and we're trying to branch out a little bit.

What's already settled:

What's not yet so sure:

It's easier to cut and eat things while not in fursuit and it could mess up your fursuit too so I don't recommend it.
Also it's more a social event so being able to talk helps too :)

Canadians - bring Maple Syrup cookies pppllllleeeeasssssse :) I've not had them for close to 10 years :)

If I can get some Aussie products in time I'll be there for sure :)
Most likely Tim Tams (chocolate biscuits) and some kind of lolly like Minties.

Any (US?) furs willing to bring Cheetos Flamin Hot potato chips? ( http://31.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_leosovNgEA1qc65oco1_400.jpg )

I had some of those when I was in the US about 5 years ago, and I'd love to taste them again.
I will bring stroopwafels and other dutch snacks myself. I believe potato chips with Paprika taste are pretty rare in the US?

There is still lots u can bring ^^
Brunost dont go bad in room temperature unless its opened, so one of u should bring that. Same goes for fløtemysost. :3 But they do get soft and might get crushed easier.
just put it in the fridge at EF when u get there to have it optimal before the exchange.
Also, maby one of you can bring some norwegian potato chips, and you should look for Smørbukk.  and remember there is chocolates like melkedrøm you can bring. =3
hope it helped u getting some ideas. ^^

Racist candy? O.o

Bit of a running gag (or attempts to be) from last year, when the Daily Eurofurence made mention of the ISE and called the Hungarian ‘Negro’ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negro_%28candy%29) candy the ‘racist candy’.

May I suggest someone (from Germany) buys a few bottles of Waldmeister next year? The fursuiters are quite familiar with "Eurofurence Green" by now, but the non-suiters might not be. Judging by its popularity in the fursuit lounge, I'm guessing it might actually be quite a hit =)

If you're making this next year, I will see what Danish goodies I can find! :D or perhaps even make some myself xD I'm crazy about some christmas candy we have that's called havregrynskugler(oatmeal balls I guess is the English translation - it's sweet, though, despite the name!). It doesn't take too long to make, so I think it'd be possible I can make a batch of those and find something else, too.
