The dpa/AFP photo series has a very wide circulation, for example at Egypt Today (http://www.misrday.com/news/59/467543/), Turkish paper Millyet (http://gundem.milliyet.com.tr/hayranlar-bulustu/gundem/detay/1754287/default.htm?ref=OtherNews), the Japanese AFP ticker (http://www.afpbb.com/article/life-culture/life/2963693/11237629), Zee News India, various regional American papers, a whole bunch of regional German newspapers which you won't find with Google News anymore due to changed German legislation... m(

Funny thing is, you can easily compare the photos and see what sort of changes they made (mostly contrast and saturation). Generally the pictures turned out very good (imho) and are a good way for positive representation to the public.

In German:
Seit einigen Tagen treiben die "Furries", übersetzt die "Pelzigen", in Magdeburg ihr buntes Unwesen.
Aber mal ganz im Ernst, die Menschen im Phantasietierkostüm verbreiten im Grunde überall wo sie auftauchen gute Laune.
Ein Trend ist das, der aus den USA kommt und mittlerweile in Deutschland tausende Anhänger hat
und die treffen sich zur Zeit wieder mal in Magdeburg zu Europas größtem Furry-Event.
Allerdings werden es offenbar zu viele -- das ganze Maritim-Hotel haben sie gemietet, und es reicht doch nicht aus.
Sehen wir sie also hier nie wieder?

Bunt, schrill und knuffig -- die sogenannten Furries haben nur eine Mission: Knuddeln, Bilder machen, und nochmal knuddeln.
Bei einer Parade durch die Magdeburger Innenstadt konnten sich die pelzigen Tierchen deshalb auch vor Fans kaum retten.
Insgesamt vier Tage besuchen die Furries die Landeshauptstadt. Das freut besonders die Tourismus-Branche.

[Andrea Imwalle, Direktorin Maritim-Hotel]
Die buchen alle unsere Zimmer. Sie sind ja ein paar Tage da.
Es ist natürlich auch für uns, aufgrund dessen das es Sommermonate sind und eigentlich noch nicht ein richtiger Tagungsmonat stattfindet, ist es für uns ein großer wirtschaftlicher Aspekt."
Allerdings verabschieden sich die 1400 Furries noch in diesem Jahr von Magdeburg.
Ab 2014 treffen sich die pelzigen Tierchen aus Platzgründen in Berlin.
"Bedauerlich", findet auch einer der Stadtväter.
[Rüdiger Koch, Bürgermeister von Magdeburg]
"Die Furries sind erstmal eine Bereicherung, ein großer Faktor für eine Stadt.
Das vierte Mal hier. Das Hotel ist absolut ausgebucht, überbucht.
Wir freuen uns, dass die Furries sich hier so wohl fühlen in unserer Stadt.
Und wir bedauern es mit einem weinenden Auge, dass sie im nächsten Jahr uns verlassen wollen -- oder müssen aus deren Sicht -- und nach Berlin gehen wollen."
Rund um die Parade wurde es ganz schön eng.
Alle wollten ein Foto mit den Tierchen machen.
Zumal es eines der Letzten sein könnte.

"Es ist sehr traurig, dass es in Magdeburg nicht mehr ist.
Aber auf den anderen Seite, wenn man die Massen sieht der Kostüme, wunderschöne Kostüme, ist es klar, irgendwie reicht dann Magdeburg nicht mehr aus."
"Man kann es verstehen, weil Berlin ist größer, mehr Leute die sich treffen, mehr Fans, mehr Leute die zugucken.
Man kann es von den Leuten aus verstehen, aber es ist schade für Magdeburg."
Die dicken Tränen rollen hier zwar nicht zum Abschied, aber -- traurig sind die Magdeburger allemal.

Jaaa, was ist schon Berlin, oder?
In English:
Since a couple of days ago, Furries are up to mischief in Magdeburg.
But seriously, everywhere these people in fantastic animal costumes appear, they infect others with their good mood.
Furry Fandom is a trend from the U.S., having thousands of fans in Germany these days.
And right now they meet in Magdeburg, at Europe's biggest furry event.
But they are getting too many -- they rented all of the Maritim Hotel, and it is still not enough.
Are we never to see them again?

Colorful, flashy, and cute -- the Furries, as they call themselves, have but a single mission: Hug, take photos, hug again.
During their parade through Magdeburg's city center, they could hardly escape their fans.
Four days in total they visit the state capitol. Especially the tourism industry is very happy about that.

"They book all our rooms. After all, they are here for several days.
This is a large economic aspect, since it it summer and this is not exactly a month for business conferences."
Alas, this year the 1400 Furries say good-bye to Magdeburg.
In 2014 they meet in Berlin, for a lack of space here.
"Regrettable", says one of the city fathers.

"First of all, the Furries are a great benefit, a big item for a city.
Fourth time here. Hotel is completely booked out, overbooked.
We are very happy that they feel so well in our city.
And we regret much that they want to -- have to, in their view -- leave us next year, and go to Berlin."
Not much space left around their parade.
Everyone wants to have a photo with the critters.
Especially since it could be the last chance for that.

"It is very sad that it will no longer be in Magdeburg.
But on the other hand, if you see these masses with their costumes, beautiful costumes, it is clear, at some point Magdeburg isn't just enough."
"You can understand, because Berlin is bigger, more people who can meet there, more fans, a larger audience.
You can understand from their view, but it is a pity for Magdeburg."
These tears are not shed in farewell, but -- Magdeburgians are sad alltogether.

JFYI, I've finally updated http://eurofurence.de/index.php?presse-medienspiegel — I left out most of the links to the DPA item in German newspapers, though, and I intentionally didn't link Tiroler Tageszeitung (tt.com/Freizeit/7070153-42/freiheit-f%C3%BCr-das-tier-in-dir.csp) due to almost libelous ramblings...
