Title: EF19 Charity - New Record!
Post by: TaniDaReal on 27.08.2013, 20:04:51
Back from the bank, I am most happy to announce the final amount of money that
we all together collected at Eurofurence 19 for our loving Charity "Wildtierhilfe Fiel e.V. (http://www.wildtierhilfefiel.de/)". :)

With your amazing generosity and support, we were able to collect the incredible and new EF record amount of:

19.307€

I cannot put in words how thankful I am to every single one of you for your incredible support! :D
As Pinky said on stage, you all make me proud to be a furry! We did a really amazing thing here,
and you can all be proud of yourself! I think Rosi's tears at the preliminary announcement on
Saturday evening on stage said more than a thousand words. :)

Our deepest thanks from the whole charity team - especially to our dedicated charity fursuiters who
never got tired to collect more money until Monday morning, to Henrieke for the lovely artwork, to Uncle Kage
who rocked the bar on Friday night for charity, Mystifur who organized the fursuiter charity flash mob, the
fursuiters and staff at the fursuit game show, everyone who was so kind to donate money in coins or even
amazing 100€ notes, to Fox Amoore and Dreamsong for the Charity Concert and work, everyone who bought
tickets for the Charity Concert, the raccoon photo ops and lottery tickets, to all who donated artwork for the
Lottery Booth and Charity Auction, to all artists who donated a percentage of their art show sales, the
Otter Noses for being tasty, the video team for the charity intro video during opening ceremonies and to all staff
(art show, technics, con ops...) and volunteers and all I forgot here now for your neverending work in so many
places I can't list them all! <3 THANK YOU ALL!

Have some statistics:
(with all the many donations from various events and locations being dropped off, unfortunately I can't recall
every single amount for each event, these are just some examples)

- We collected 15.249€ in notes
- We collected 4058€ in coins
- All coins had a total weight of over 41kg (oy!)
- The City Caree flash mob brought 500€
- Kage's karaokee evening brought 1587€
- The Charity fursuiters collected over 3000€
- The Charity Auction brought 3685€ (without art show percentages)
- The fursuit game show brought 882€
- The Lottery Booth sold almost all tickets

Special hugs and thanks again to our wonderful charity team Pinky, Itchigo, Snowi and Pan, who worked
really hard during the con and before! You guys are amazing and I am proud to be in this team! *hugs*

Here's a video of the preliminary charity amount announcement from Saturday evening:

I will still post reactions from our Charity, I will pass on the happy news to them today and we will
sure visit them again. :)

PS: Don't wonder about not having seen this photo / situation at EF, we're still going to make a proper
new photo for press etc. but just for now I took one photo from last year. :3

WOW! Over 19.000€, that's amazing! ;D

Of course I hoped it would me more than last year, but this is.. whoa.. :D
Thanks to all the people who donated to Baseball and Titash! It was very exhausting sometimes because you all kept giving money so I couldn't stop, haha. Baseball thanks everyone for continuously giving money and asks if the next charity can be a fruit bat shelter! ;)

I am really proud of us all for this extraordinary result :)
But I guess they will find a use for this. What was what they said in the beginning? 600€ would be "nice"? ^^

while Im really happy we broke last year record and Im sure the people from Wildtierhilfe Fiel appreciate that, the last day when I was giving away my usual end of EF "goodbye chocolates", I heard a few people tell me "oh some charity stuff again?" which make me think maybe it may have been a little too much on the charity hunt for money in the main hall.
dont get me wrong, I really love the idea of giving money to the charity and I have given quite some myself
it's just that maybe trying to get even more next year may prove to be a bit counterproductive, just saying
I apologize if im stepping on feet here, thats not my intention.

@Fafnir: In general it should never come to a point when people are (truly) annoyed by something. But I don't think anybody was. Also, it very much depends on the charity how much money can be raised. This year I think we had an extraordinary great charity - and that very much showed. We love and appreciate the success and increase compared to last year, however we are very aware that this is no guarantee that it will always be that much (or even higher). So no worry. ;3

From what I experienced, all/most donations where very voluntarily. The little time I had a donation box (for bringing it up to the room), people litterally jumped all over me to drop money in it - which was simply awesome and made me very happy. Also the photo ops, concert tickets, posters, lottery tickets, the events, etc. - it sold out / filled up that quickly (I think we could have sold even more) - on people's very own choices. :)

It's always a challenge to find the right way between too much and not enough. There are cons where charity is almost not noticable (and it shows in the amount).
We did a really good thing here, this will save so many animal lives now and in the future. We can really be proud of that. I think we're on a good path. :)

Great result! Congratulations to the Charity team and a big bow to all who donated!

How the hell did you collect 15.249€ in notes, though? O.o Foreign currencies?

I was only thinking about the donation box in the main hall, not all the other events (and sincerely that's an amazing good work you and all the charity team did)
maybe I have misinterpreted people reaction,
sorry if I may have sounded gloomy

Pawsome.... wonderfurl... i dont find any words for this.

This is what we truly are... this is what needs to be spread into the real world, not all the dramas and personal impulses.

I am really crying of joy right now, thx all for making this possible!  :-*

The notes were indeed all Euro. Looooots of them. I kept 3 people at the bank busy counting them for half an hour. ;) Looked like inverse bank robbery.

I think he means it's possible to do either 15.245 or 15.250 with note since the smallest one are 5€ note ^_^

Great job everyone and especially thanks to all those who contributed to the charity by organising, collecting and performing for the charity!

@Fafnir: In general it should never come to a point when people are (truly) annoyed by something. But I don't think anybody was.

I surely hope I didn't annoy people too much, practically begging them to buy more Otter Noses. I am aware I do have a problem with noticing stuff like that though. I tried to back away quickly from any face that looked annoyed. If I was not careful enough and still annoyed anyone, I am truly sorry - that was never my intention.

That said, if/when given the chance I'll probably do this all over again. Although as mentioned I'm not sure if anyone was annoyed, I didn't hear a single person complain, quite the opposite in fact. I was rather surprised by people thanking me for "doing such a great job at being a salesman", and even giving me money without wanting anything in return. If anything, I'd say it shows just how willing this fandom is to help a good cause =)

But out of all the people I spoke with, those that seemed the happiest with my sales were those in the Charity team. They were truly passionate about helping their cause, and it showed. I'm positive they'll do great again next year. =)

@Jake
were you the same guy who was selling the Otter Nose during the main stage events?
if so you effectively did an excellent job and shown a wonderful dedication :D
in fact it reminded me of popcorn/cadies/icecreams sellers which were selling stuff in theaters years ago, quite nostalgic ;)

I was actually going for this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrDVsprWRCQ#t=3m =3
Also I believe someone else (completely forgot his name! D=) also sold them, and they were also sold at the booth, but I guess I was the loudest. ^_^' Glad you liked it!

Ah, missed that! Actually I should have written collected 15.255€, but the transaction cost 6€ fee (as it was to another bank account), and I just wrote down the amount from the receipt.
I am still talking with my bank if there's a way to get the fees back as it was a donation for a good cause (it's decided individualy). :3 Transactions and everything usually takes a few days, so I hopefully will know soon. Otherwise I'll cover it.

Sorry for being late to the party here, I drowned in work as soon as I got home from the convention. I have some things I want to say, so fair warning, this will not be a short post!

I just cannot believe how amazing you all are. I want to thank each and everyone who donated even the smallest amount, everyone who bought lottery tickets, otter noses and tickets to the concert, everyone who bid or even won the auction items, to the spontaneous collections that people organise on their way to the con or in other situations, to everyone I forgot to mention here, to EVERYONE who helped us reach this amount, from the bottom of my heart and (I'm sure) from the bottom of the charity's heart: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I also want to thank my team, they work so hard to get everything organised! You may wonder, who is actually in the charity team, who are the people making this possible? Well my list of gratitude below will serve as an introduction to them as well. And you will also get a sense of how many different areas and contact points we are actually working with to make this happen.

First of all, I simply couldn't do this without my deputy Tani who not only speaks German fluently and therefore is able to do all the pre-con communication with the charity, she also makes amazing art designs for us, handles the money, receives all pre-con item donations, helps with making the art show display for the charity, organises, arranges and works incredibly hard on a million other things for us with a list that is simply too long to mention here. Tani, you are incredible, there would be no Eurofurence charity without you! Thank you!

A thank you to Pan who handles the contact to the Fursuit game preliminaries, our official collecting fursuiters that you met during the opening ceremonies, does the amazing concert poster designs and generally helps out in every way she can.

Of course - one of the most visible points for us (which was made extra visible this year by some people I thank below) is the lottery booth, which is assembled, organised before the con, run during the convention, and dissembled again at the end by Ithcigo Icetalons. It is a huge job, thank you so much for all the work you put into this, even when you fall and hurt your leg you still crawl down in the booth to sit and work, you're a machine, sir!

Also a huge thank you to our newest member, Snowi, who joined us this same year but still managed to hit the ground running. She is our art show liaison and takes care of all on-site item donations, and with the help of Tani decides which items go to the lottery booth and which go to auction and displays these on stage in the art show. She also updates all our lists (both our own and in the art show system), makes sure all auction items are photographed and ready for auction, helps out in the lottery booth and runs back and forth between the art show, the booth, our photographer, main stage during auction, Tani and me. No wonder she stays in such a great shape!

Finally there is also a lot of people who are not officially part of the team but who help out in so many ways. The amazing charity booth design was made by Karpour and Henrieke, and Titash and Karpour were our official fursuit collectors though I saw many others join in such as Henrieke, Sithy, o'Kill and Leeuwlion. Thanks also to Atkelar and his crew for making the charity part of their fursuit games preliminaries and to Ysegrim for working late every night making photos of the auction items you guys donated all day to us, as well as to the art show crew for helping us with actually receiving the items.

A huge thank you also goes to Kage who got drunk and made an ass of himself just for us, and so helped us raise an incredible amount and was generally amusing beyond words - we are so grateful to you for what you did. And finally, last but in no way least, I want to thank the amazing charity concert performers. Foxamoore, who helped me organise the event, to the beautiful miss Amadhia with the mesmerising singing voice and to Garra our wonderful man-with-the-strings.

I think the above shows not only how many activities and events it takes, but also how many people are involved and what a big job simply keeping communication going between everyone is. There are no words that I know that express how grateful I am to everyone who work for us or helps us and especially to every attendee who donated in one form or another.

You have a real impact on real animals out there who now have better lives because of you, you are actively changing the world for the better! You should all be so proud of yourselves, you did this, you were part of this, this alone should give you pide in who and what you are.

Well done, everyone, well done!

*offers hugs to you all*
