Given that Berlin has two airports within (relatively) easy reach of the hotel by public transport, I think it's fairly safe to assume there won't be a furry bus this year.

I flew in last weekend and even a dummy like me could easily get there. You just hop onto the Ringbahn (circle line) and get off at the hotel, it's right next to a station on the line.

You can read a lot more here: http://www.estrel.com/en/location-directions.html

There's no need to be scared. We all learn english in school, so you won't have problems finding someone who can help you in case you don't know where to go. Especially in a town that's visited by many tourists.

@ RedFoxy: Taking the bus in Germany is not much different than taking the bus in Italy  :).
Ma se voi ti do una mano a cercare il bus giusto - manda mi un messago ;)

With in excess of 1600 attendees, there's a distinct possibility that a whole bunch of furs will get to the airports at around the same time, making it easy for you all to get lost together  ;D

You can plan your tour with the public transportation systems on the homepage of the BVG (which operates the busses, trams and subways), they even have an english version of their homepage, the networkplans and their tourplanner:

Or just follow the instructions given on the EF website. (http://www.eurofurence.org/EF20/hotel/travel) Whilst it doesn't give the fastest routes from the airports, they're the easiest to follow, particularly from Tegel as the two buses involved start at the Airport and Hauptbahnhof respectively.

If you are traveling it´s handy to know the following German words:
- (Haubt)bahhof    (main)trainstation
- Zug                  train (the actual transportation vehicle on the rails)
- U-bahn              subway, underground train
- S-bahn              local train, tram
- Fahrkarte           (train/bus) ticket

I would recommend keeping enough change (coins) at you, because almost all toilets either ask for voluntair tip or require you to pay either 50 or 70 euro cent in return for a discount card. Zanifair is the most common toilet company you will encounter with this later system. Be sure to go to the toilet before you go and eat or buy something, you can use the tickets as a part of your payment.

About travelling by train: All ticket machines have an option for english and french.
The only thing you really need to know is how the german name of your destination sounds - it will be announced few minutes before arrival, but the announcement may be mumbled or with Berlin accent.

Also, usually you find a chart with the stations that are served at the bus stop and most liekely as well inside the bus. You just have to read where you get in, where you have to get out, count the stations and than count the stops while driving.

On ICE, you find little folded leaflets (on tables, in seat pockets, on chairs...). They show you the exact route of the train, and name all the serving stations. Again: just compare the names of the stations with your actual stops, and you know when to get out without speaking or even listening.

It takes lots of time and effort to call bus company, plan the trip and solve issues with airports and everyones different flight plans which makes it a bit pointless if you can just hop on a local bus.
