Title: Apocalypse World RPG at EF21
Post by: Zuki on 22.07.2015, 14:48:40

For those interested in tabletop RPGs I am planning on running a game of Vincent Bakers acclaimed Apocalypse World RPG at the con - at least one session will most likely be on  Wedneday the 19th, the first night of the con. Since I can only take about 5 players if theres enough interest I will run another session of it later tho!

Scenario details are :

Green and Unpleasant Land

We left the poisonous cities of our creators far behind and made a savage new world in our own feral image.  Now the gun the claw and those who can still hold it together run the world for better or worse.  Its all just peachy if you are the one with the most bullets,  right? Live and die on the fury road and all that drek.  But something is growing in those old dirty cities.  Something thats fit to tear you down and spit you out all messed up.

Apcoalypse world uses character playbooks for very rapid character generation and a simple 2d6 plus stat system of moves to keep the action fierce and fast paced - its very much in the vein of Mad Max and other post apocalypse movies.

For a flavour of the game take a look at the playbooks here

http://apocalypse-world.com/AW-basicplaybooks-legal.pdf

Id naturally be making the characters furry rather than human to fit with the con theme.

I have been playing with something like that for a while now and I am interested.
I might be busy on the con thought, how do you plan on organizing it?

As in; is this a room party or somewhere in the lobby?

I believe the games room will be open and I will be running it there - providing its not tooo noisy with other games.

I don't think I will have a sign up sheet so it might need to be first come first served on the places.

I'm also interested but have zero experience with this system (Or any other non-d20 system for that matter as I am a D&D/Pathfinder fanatic). I don't mind doing some reading though!

The system is a breeze and very easy to pick up, shouldn't be a problem to learn even if you have zero RPG experience as almost everything runs off a single die roll with varying levels of success.

One thing the game encourages is players making up bits of the game world, so you get to define who and what populates the jungle wastes as well as the GM.

I'll be running the Games Corner for this year.

And sure, most days we will (most likely) have 2 rooms available.
Quite spacey also, so I hope it will all work out well.

Very well, if I can spare the time and you are not yet full I guess I see you their :-3

Excellent! Yes it would be great to use that space for the game - thankyou!

Look forward to seeing you in the game, I can certainly reserve spaces for people if you like - as long as you can arrive on time for the event. it should play for 3-4 hours and id think of starting about 8pm :)

If I did count right, you got 4 players so far - I would like to be no. 5 :)
I do not have my final duty shedule for the art show yet, but Wednesday evening should be all right.
Do you have any idea about the time yet?

Joining in to the request to know the exact time so I confirm that I can indeed play.

Sorry for the late reply!

I was planning to run this on the Wednesday which is the first day of the con initially if I get enough players, and then we could work out another night to run it again if there is enough interest - what days are good for you guys?

Can we perhaps just set a time for Wednesday now, and make further arrangements after the first gaming session?
Games corner opens at 8pm, so should we meet at that time?

Cool, 8pm on Wednesday it is :)
Do you want us to create (or think about) our chars before? Roughly, at least?

Also, should we read anything about the game/system or are you to give a short tutorial?

Character generation is usually done at the table, but if you want an idea of the characters on offer here is a list - some of these I might not allow in play because they dont suit the adventure - usually when you play apocalypse world you design the scenario on the fly based on the characters people create, but it would be harder to do something on theme if we did that.

Actual play is pretty simple to learn and can happen at the table - the playbooks take you step by step thru how to create each character class.

Note that the playbooks are designed to be printed double sided and folded into 3 page books, so the order of things is a little weird on the pdf.

Even though I can definitely play on 8pm on Wednesday, I won't be able to commit ahead of time to any other days. So if someone shows up and can, he should have the spot.

I was intending for this to be a one shot adventure, and if too many players show up to maybe run it again another night but thats by no means certain, so I am not asking anyone to commit to more than a single session.

Hey guys, just a quick note about our gaming session: it was a blast!!! I did loads of pen and paper RPG in the past, but never a furry realated one, nor one in the setting we had. Thank you all for that fantastic experience, especially Zuki for guiding us through a world full of hive controlled zombieplant - thingies and nasty porcupine opponents, "Cruel" for his perfect-in-time sacrifice, our noble boss "Daragon" for his reasonable leadership, "Smaug" for collecting mushrooms at the most inept time but having a chainsaw ready when needed, and "Cortex" for constantly opening his and cutting other's brains.
I had a great time, and would love to have another session with all of you next year ;D

Take care, "Torx"

Thanks! I had such a good time running the game for you guys you all brought something special to the table and played your characters really well! The game went on longer than I expected but it was still fun right to the end, was a real climactic battle and everyone made a great contribution to the game!

Hope we can play again sometime it would be great - have to come up with a game thats on theme for the 80s! :)

Thank you mostly for running this game. It was awesome :-3
I have such memories from this.

Shall we try something like this again next year?

Yesssss! Why not??
Huh, 80s hm?
- We could play be members of a punk band, travelling through the country trying to be on time for our next gig ;D
- Or a time travelling crew with a DeLorean DMC-12 ;)

Why not a mix of both?
It would be terrible like Kung Fury:

But a punk band trying to save punk and need to travel back in time to learn the true meaning of punk and deliver the most epic show to safe their beloved genre from eletronic and hardstyle?

Sounds great! And for the final quest, we have to break in the rock museum to steal the "pick of destiny"  :D

I do love the idea of running a Kung Fury inspired game with lots of over the top 80s cliches in it - ill have to have a good think about the right system for that. I can think of a few!

Also if you enjoyed Apocalypse world, the PDF is on sale along with a whole load of other games using the same system in the bundle of holding  right now - Only 8 dollars!
