Title: Not attending atm but curious
Post by: Ragmo on 28.07.2016, 20:19:54
Hi there  :)

A couple of days ago, i just saw that there is THE european furry convention literaly 100meter away from my workpalce.

Even though its to late for me to even consider to go this year (getting a ticket on such short notice, and not having vacations);
But maybe next year, and so i was wondering:

I never visited a furry convention till now. Would it even be worth going alone?

My friends aren't realy interested about that - atleast not that i know of;
And going alone seems quite scary, despite that friendly community (i kind of have big problems to approach/getting approached by strangers).

Never the less, since the con is directly infront of my face, i DEFENTLY want to drop by after work to get some first impressions from outside of the convetion area  ;)

You can get a ticket even at the door (though it's more expensive than pre-registering), and the program (http://www.eurofurence.org/EF22/schedule/) goes on into the night, with stage events and dances.
There's also lots of program on Saturday, including the art auction and the Pawpet Show.

I'd say, if you're Furry and live nearby, don't miss out, get yourself a ticket and just join the fun :)

*purrrr*

Also, the main hall is accessible without a ticket - it is public space. It is much to see there already :).
You could come after work or on the weekend, go inside, have a look, and buy a ticket if you like what you see (or just hang out in the lobby - the ticket grants you acceess to panels, shows, dances etc. which Zefiro allready mentioned).

Oh, and yes: it is worth going even on your own!!! Usually you will not stay alone for long - there are that many nice and friendly people from all over the world socialising in that hotel that you will make friends soon :)

The public areas of the hotel are accessible without a ticket, so you can have an impression - and if you want to check one of the ticket-only events like presentations (panels) or the Art Show (art exhibition) you can buy a day-ticket and visit for just one day.

And obviously it is more fun if you come with friends but you can also make friends there - for example, if you go to panels, you will be among furs with a common interest. There are also just random socializing, mini-parties and so on.

And if you go alone for the first time, you may end up with friends to go with next year. ;)

In my humble opinion, yes it is worth it. I attended EF19 on my own with the same uncertainty; most of us are quite friendly and love to meet new furs, most of us love to have a good time and for some of us that's enough but we have panels covering almost every topic of interest to the community you can participate in and overall you will be sure to make more friends you can share your interests with. I met and made a lot of very good friends at that con, and every year I add more to the list that I look forward to seeing the following years.

We want everyone to have a good time; there was a "first time attendee" panel and of course we'll help where we can if you come to us.

Preregistering is a good way to attend but as others said, you could also pay for a day-pass if you wished to 'dip your toes' before diving on in.

If I could sum EF (or any other large furcon) up in one sentence it would be: A great place to meet and make friends with shared interests, and having a great time in the process.

You'll hear many different opinions on that question, and so here is mine:
1) as many people already pointed out, you only need a ticket (which will also grant you a badge and a con book, wherein you'll find a map and program of all things happening) to enter all points of interest. Lobby, bar and restaurants are open to anyone, as they're being operated publicly by the hotel. Strictly said, if you "only want to drop by after work and meet a few furries", you don't need a ticket.
2) Chat up with a few attending furries beforehand and make some friends that you already know you'll meet there. Jumping into the cold water and hoping to get in touch with someone, especially when you're not the approaching kind of person, can leave you with a stranded feeling when everyone around have their groups.
