By the gods...! (panel suggestion EF 18)
« on: 16.01.2012, 19:00:24 »

Romans are very familiar for having so many gods that they worship, maybe a good idea to have a panel about this? Maybe leisure talk about Jupiter (king of the gods) or maybe about Apollo... well, I dunno, but it will fit into the theme of this years' con, isn't it? Or maybe some of the other roman gods?

I was not sure if people would be interested, but if there is an interest I can do a little talk about Roman archaeology/language/traditions/weird little tidbits? I no longer specialise in Roman archaeology but the random knowledge is still there ;)

I'm currently studying Latin and Roman literature in general, don't know that'd be much use for myself or for you if something were to be organised?

I am curious - did the Romans get as far as Magdeburg?  Or were they pretty much confined to the West, in the valleys along and close by the Rhine?  Are there any roman ruins in the vicinity?

Nope, Magdeburg is out of range both geographically (the romans never got that far northeast) and chronologically (Charlemagne founded Magdeburg in the year 805, while the western roman empire collapsed sometimes in the mid-400s).

Sounds a bit weird from my side, but I honestly think this also might be a good idea. Sithy is actually an archaeologist in rl so maybe she can tell more about the subject.

This is relevant to my interests, as they say on the internet these days. Seriously though, I'd love to attend a panel like this (though due to staffing responsibilities I can't make any promises).
