Travel Update - March
« on: 02.03.2014, 17:47:41 »

Hi everybody!

It's March, which is.... pretty much still half a year away from the con, but you know how time flies — so here's our first travel advisory for the year.
Remember that some things are changing thanks to our move to the new venue, so make sure to double check your travel arrangements, and get things in order early.

Next update will be in May.

Travel documents

We can't stress this often enough - visitors from outside the Schengen area need to be in possession of a valid form of government ID and, if neccessary, a visa.

It is a good idea to get these documents sorted out as early as possible, as applications for Schengen visa can often take weeks or even months to process.

Please check the web site of the German Foreign Office to find out whether you need a visa for the Schengen area.

Roads

There currently are no major roadworks announced on the regional road network.

However, please note that near the A100 / A113 exit AD Grenzallee a diversion is in place until Summer 2017 due to the construction of the new A100 tunnel. This may cause traffic jams and longer travel times.

Rail

Domestic and international train tickets will be available from 92 days prior to the date of travel, i.e. mid-May (120 days for Eurostar journeys). A separate announcement will be made at the appropriate time.

Since we're changing hotels in 2014, the Maritim discount fare is no longer available.
Please see the overview of domestic and international fares on the DB web site for up-to-date offers.

There currently is one advisory:
Starting in May, Ostkreuz station will not have escalators or lifts on connections from the city centre (S5, S7, S75) to the Ringbahn (S41, S42) platforms and vice versa. Please consider this in regard to heavy luggage.
