What does SIG actually stand for?
« on: 18.09.2007, 18:10:33 »

I was wondering this at EF itself. Didn't see it explained in the conbook anywhere, and I still have no idea to this day. Could someone tell this poor clueless foxcat what it means? :P

SIG = Special Interest Group

That's correct. But it somehow also became synonymous for the meeting of a special interest group, and some use it as a general term to describe any small conference-like event at a convention.

Sometimes, more appropriate and more precise words describing the actual event would be "panel discussion", "workshop", "bird of a feather meeting", "talk" or "seminar", depending on the actual theme and content.

Ah, thanks! But maybe it's an idea to mention it in conbooks next time, hehe.
