Stage Crew is looking for Light Jockeys at EF2015
« on: 29.07.2015, 22:22:46 »

Hi there,

Ever wanted to do a Lightshow for all that Fursuiters dancing or while BBF is spinning?
Ever wanted to work with a big lighting rig?

Then we are looking for you!
We are looking for about 11 people to help us run the lightshow during the dances at EF.

Some experience in Martin Lightjockey is a plus but it's not needed. We will teach it to you in a couple of minutes, it's really simple and fun the moment you start working with it.
Also you will have an experienced light tech from our team at your side the whole time, that will help you if you get stuck somewhere.

The Dances last for about 6h (80s Dance) or 8h(Fursuit dance and BigBlue Dance). So every volunteer will get a 2h "shift".

If we could rise your interest you can apply right here in this thread.
Already have some preferences? Tell them too.  :)

Here are the Slots we are looking to fill in:

80s Dance (Wednesday)
21:00 - 23:00 Shift - A
23:00 - 01:00 Shift - B
01:00 - 03:00 Shift - C

Fursuit Dance (Thursday)
21:00 - 23:00 Shift - A
23:00 - 01:00 Shift - B
01:00 - 03:00 Shift - C
03:00 - 05:00 Shift - D

Big Blue Dance (Saturday)
21:30 - 23:00 Shift - A
23:00 - 01:00 Shift - B
01:00 - 03:00 Shift - C
03:00 - 05:00 Shift - D

Hi,
I´m an absolute beginner in terms of LJing but I'm willing to learn and I would be glad to contribute to the Dance Events on Thursday and/or Sunday. Is there something like a simple tutorial (or simulation) for Martin LightJockey ?

I'd like to take part in this. But have no experience.
Shift "C" on any day will do (otherwise busy with staff work)

Preferably:
80s Dance (Wednesday) 01:00 - 03:00 Shift - C
or
Big Blue Dance (Saturday) 01:00 - 03:00 Shift - C

Sorry that we did not get to back to you earlier.
We are working on the shedule right now.
I will try to get back to you via direct messages as soon as I know if you can have the slots you wish for :)

I'm also interested but I will probably only know my schedule on Wednesday (Need to see when Zuki is running his Apocalypse RPG sessions).

Also note that I have no experience :P

I'd love to learn some basics what to do in LJing, besides simple chasers, but I don't dare to apply for a full 2h shift first thing to do.
If there is a common introduction meeting, I'd love to take part.

Hello,

we finally got our schedule down and sorted.

Here are the operator assignments for the dances

80s Dance (Wednesday)
21:00 - 23:00 Shift - A Senior: Jaryic (Programming test and finetuning)
23:00 - 01:00 Shift - B Senior: Garra; Junior: Hothis
01:00 - 03:00 Shift - C Senior: MafunDi; Junior: Basil Lion

Fursuit Dance (Thursday)
21:00 - 23:00 Shift - A Senior: Isaac; Junior: Furball
23:00 - 01:00 Shift - B Senior: Isaac; Junior: Krümel
01:00 - 03:00 Shift - C Senior: MafunDi; Junior: Cheetah Paw

Big Blue Dance (Saturday)
21:30 - 23:00 Shift - A Senior: Isaac; Junior: Fafnir
23:00 - 01:00 Shift - B Senior: Djem; Junior: Manu
01:00 - 03:00 Shift - C Senior: Garra; Junior: Dragi
03:00 - 05:00 Shift - D Senior: Isaac; Junior: SciFox

Everyone interested in how we do it, is welcomed to stop by the FOH during the dances watch us work and just ask.

Don't worry about the Lightdesk, it's quick and easy explained and learned.
We follow a very flexible approche that allows us to use building blocks in stead of fixed programms to create the lighting.
So you have the fexibility to be creative.

See you at the con and thanks for volunteering :)

It's gonna be on the fly.
That's why we allways have on of our seniors teamed up with you.

You didn't tell us where to go so I'll be waiting near the stage door @-@
(As this is my first EF, I have no idea where to head)

Edit; < I will be on my way..>

First of all I want to thank Jaryic, Mafundi, Garra, Isaak, Djem and others for all the time and effort spent on teaching us. :) This was a very intensive and valuable experience for me. I was annoying almost everyone of you with my beginner questions, while you were utterly busy, but you still managed to find time to answer them. Guys, you rock! Thank you!

That's why we allways have on of our seniors teamed up with you.

I was able to learn some concepts and a little bit of light desk. I even managed to do my shift almost fully (with a help of senior staff) but still have some constructive feedback about on-the-fly learning procedure... it just was not working as expected:

1) It is simply impossible to communicate with senior engineer due to overly load music (which is expected on a dance floor, but was not taken into consideration for on-the-fly learning) Without voice-over on what's going on and what senior is doing - it is close to impossible to understand what's he doing. Looks like a mess of switches, buttons, screens and configs for me. I'd suggest to make a short briefing for ALL juniors to get basics on light concepts, maybe even desk setup & management. Or even a full 1 hour event on LJing. So it would be much easier for juniors to catch up on the fly.

2) Priority is ALWAYS given to the actual light show, than to teaching junior, letting him make mistakes or do the show uneventful (less interesting than a professional LJ can do). This happened to CheetahPaw, who was practically sitting and doing nothing whole shift due to some kind of problems with light desk configuration/setup. I'm not sure if that could be avoided completely, troubles do tend to happen unexpectedly, but it would be nice to have all setups ready and checked before the show. And there should be a way to export/import config to a flash drive just in case setup dies or corrupts during the show. So there should be a backup plan (Big Red Button) to recover all setup in case something goes wrong.

3) No feedback given. So I suggest to do a post-show meeting next day & collect feedback (senior->junior) to discuss improvement plan of juniors, point out mistakes and strong points, etc.

I'd love to participate in such event in the future :)
And thank you all for making it possible. Light shows this year were a blast! :3

Ahaha, I feel so stupid after this!
Well, the most important thing was that there was no trouble in me missing.

The lights were very gorgeous though! Good job everyone.
