Bus or Taxi?
« on: 13.08.2015, 16:28:50 »

I'm bringing a large suitcase with me, but I'm not sure whether to take the bus or a taxi. Ideally, I'd like to take the bus, but I don't know how much of a hassle it would be to travel with my luggage.
Could anyone who's had any experience with the Berlin public transport system give me some advice on this?

Edit: Crap, I can't believe that I didn't mention where I'm starting from. XD I need to go from the Tegel airport to Estrel.

It depends on your starting point. If you for example start at the Mainstation you can use the S-Bahn twice. If your luggage is really heavy I would recommend looking here: http://fahrinfo.vbb.de/bin/query.exe/en and enter the barrier free option (you will be then routed like you need some elevators, so you can use these and don't need to use the stairs when switching Trains (or Busses ect.).

When you use a Taxi i would recommend sharing it with others (Berlin can be a bit expensive with their Taxi prices in my opinion).

I went from Berlin Central Station to Sonnenallee by bus and I found it annoying as hell, with a big fursuitbox and luggage to carry around.
This year I will definately use a Taxi.
It all depends on how far you are away, check Google how far it is and you can abbreviate a Taxi price - I paid about 20€ from the Estrel to Central Station last year :)

using google maps to calculate the distance and this price calculation site. http://www.taxi-in-berlin.de/taxitarif/taxi-tarifrechner/
it should be around 45€ from tegel to the estrel in a taxi, the trip taking around half an hour if there are no traffic problems.

and the s-bahn s42 takes about 42 minutes i didnt look up the price on that.

good luck.

bjorn: that would be 2,70€ for a oneway (valid for 2h) or 6,90 € for the whole day (for example if you want to visit some tourist hotspot too)

@RedFoxy
Ah, unfortunately I'll be arriving around 11:55. Had I been there closer to 16:30, I would totally share a taxi with you.
