Wining and Dining in the Suhl area.
« on: 16.07.2008, 21:59:07 »

Does anyone have any reccomendations for some good places to eat in Suhl? My partner and I are arriving on the Sunday before EF to see some of the locale before the convention, and would like to eat at somewhere that's not McDonalds :P

There used to be that Google Maps widget I had used last year. If nobody has a copy, I could bring it back somewhere.

Doco: Thanks, it would be appreciated as I can't seem to find it in the old threads, though it may just be me missing where it is!

Nightfox: Where was the "Crazy Horse"? I'd heard the place mentioned last year, something about the con staff demolishing their steak stockpile ( :P ) but I didn't know it's location.

Edit: Found it through google maps, looks easy to get to, I remember the crossroads on the hill :D

The whole thing is back online at http://geoloc.lupinemedia.net, although there are a few things still missing that proved worthwile in 2007, I'll add them over the course of the following few days.

It's kinda funny that you gave the McDonalds a radiationsign. That stuff always gives me a stomach acid burn :D.

Speaking of the Crazy Horse...

Has anyone warned them about EF this year? I suppose otherwise they will run out of steaks by Wednesday morning or something.

There seemed to be plenty of non-meat foodstuffs in the dining hall last year from what I remember, so try waiting to see the menu before you discount the hotel food before even getting there.

I enjoyed the food at the hotel last year, though I know some people (who aren't very adventurous) weren't expecting certain dishes.

Is Shin-Shin still around and how are their prices if anyone's been there?

I can heartily recommend a little restaurant on the road from the town to the Ringberg! If coming from the Ringberg, cross over the junction for the Crazy Horse and cross over the next one signposted for the REWE. Then on your right, at the end of a set of terraced housing, you'll see a little restaurant with Apoldaer beer branding. It's a lovely little place that sells a lot of East European based meals. We went there for EF14 and it was absolutely wonderful! Everyone in our party said they'd come back next year :)

Definitely worth it!

(for those that prefer addresses... it's Ilmenaustrasse 1)
