Conflicting rules regarding food in rooms

Hi.

It has come to my attention that the official EF code of conduct and the hotels are conflicting on one specific area - Food consumptions in the hotel rooms.

On the EF website its stated that:

"The consumption of food or drink purchased from outside of the hotel is not permitted on the premises of the Estrel hotel, with the exception of your private room and around the campfire."

but in the room confirmation email people got from the hotel it was written:

"Import of Food:
The import of food into the Estrel is not permitted. This is especially valid for instant meals and food, prepared in the rooms. Exceptions are dry snacks such as chips, chocolate or similar, as well as fruit. The import of drinks in small quantities is tolerated. The use of services of external food suppliers is prohibited on the entire premises of the Estrel. This includes the order to the house and the consumption, in both, public hotel area as well as hotel rooms. The hotel reserves the right, in case of non-compliance with the guidelines, to consistently enforce appropriate measures.
"

So, which rule are we to follow in this case? And if its the hotels rule maybe the EF code of conduct text should be changed so it matches? :)

The Eurofurence rule means what you do within your room is outside the scope of your contract with Eurofurence. What you do in your room is subject to your contract with the hotel. We'll see if we can rephrase our RoC for clarification after this year.

Though, the official EF rules does suggest that your private room is exempt from this rule/ban, by contrast implying that it is allowed. Especially since this is under the "Hotel Rules" section, which one would assume should mirror the policies agreed upon together with the hotel.

Also, whilst it might be implied, there's also little to no part of the RoC that refers you to the hotel's policies and that tells you to follow them in the case of a conflict like this.

And to even further this; Anyone who has NOT directly booked a room at the hotel (by being someone else' roommate and thus not the one booking the room) has NOT received a copy of the hotel terms unless forwarded by the room owner, thus leading to the convention RoC being the only such they've been made aware of. Unless they specifically been told by someone else or specifically went searching themselves for it on the hotel website.

Either way around, it feels very misleading and could potentially even be considered a breach of contract by certain European jurisdictions (if it's not already covered by EU contract law).

To summarize, the rules seem maybe too specific about your private room being an exception to the rule (implying the opposite to be through, based on the wording) but does not specify at all that the hotel's own rules apply over EF's in situations like these. Perhaps also can be good to include a link to the hotel's rules?

ALSO, to clarify, I don't mean to complain; Just my feedback on the manner for what I personally feel may need rewording/changing.

Perhaps tweet this information because people still seem to believe they can order takeaway to their rooms like last year when in this case they can’t.

Okay, to make this unambiguous: the hotel has decided on the terms of service that have been sent out with the hotel booking and there is nothing we can do about it. Hotel ToS override our RoC. The person who booked the room is responsible for any additional guest to keep the terms of service.
